Meem The Disco Kid DJ Mix

A jacked up mid 90's house version of a disco-soul classic that used to rip up the floor at The Unabombers' 'Electric Chair' parties. Back in the day before everything could be downloaded or discog'd, this one had the spotters going absolutely spare. Some old-fashioned dusty crates digging by Pablo turned it up a few years back, and it still leaves behind massive dancefloor devastation wherever it roams.... Now in spruced up, wigged out form via a Pablo and Shoey Rejig, it's on Volume 3 of 'Downtownsounds Classics', out in June on FFP...

A group of of Philadelphia based DJs & record collectors. They blend grooves from across time and space together with a spirit they've coined "Forward Deep & Free". Along with a residency every third Thursday at Johnny Brenda's, Universal Cave hosts the CaveCast, a monthly podcast recorded in front of a live audience, as well as releasing a bunch of delicious 7" inch records with more coming.

Universal Cave & dj ShmeeJay -  Ain't No Big Thing - 2015-03-01



Max Essa (@max-essa) has been active as a producer and DJ since the early 90s, initially releasing music on labels including Warp Records and Paper Recordings and DJing alongside the infamous D.i.Y Sound System.

His later work, for labels like Is It Balearic? Recordings, went on to be play-listed by legends such as Andrew Weatherall and David Mancuso, gaining him a devoted following and DJ bookings around the world.

Albums for the Japanese major label, Victor Entertainment ('Vacations Never Taken' 2015) and Music For Dreams ('Lanterns' 2018), plus EPs for labels including Hell Yeah! Recordings and Razor N Tape (with Eddie C), and a constant stream of remixes for labels like Compost, Ubiquity, Faze Action and Leng have shown him to be a prolific and deeply imaginative producer.

Since 2008 he has been based in Japan where he plays regularly at clubs and events around the country, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
From 2010 - 2023 he was a resident DJ at the Lone Star parties, and later the Zim Zam Zu! events at the legendary, Bar Bonobo and for over a decade has been a resident at the ever popular, Aoyama Tunnel in Tokyo.

Mix of the Week #586: Coyote - Balearics Not For Everyone Vol 1.

Luca Roccatagliati, better known as DJ Rocca, is a genre-defying Italian DJ and producer whose music fuses jazz, funk, disco, house, and italo with an analog, hands-on approach. A classically trained flutist from Reggio Emilia, Rocca began his journey in the late ’90s as Maffia Soundsystem, building his reputation through breakbeat and drum & bass.

Over the years, Rocca has collaborated with international icons like Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli, and Howie B, and formed projects like Ajello, Crimea X, Supersonic Lovers, and Electric Tree. His rich sound has found a home on prestigious labels including Compost, !K7, Gomma, Rekids, and Futureboogie.

Known for championing analog gear, Rocca emphasizes human touch in his music-crafting soulful, danceable tracks. He also runs his own label, Danny Was A Drag King, curating eclectic electronic artists.

With performances at Fabric, Berghain, and festivals like Sonar and Glastonbury, Luca remains a revered figure in electronic music. His recent projects, like Roccapofortuna with Capofortuna, the EP Code 041 and the album CocoRocca Discoteca, show his commitment to pushing boundaries while honoring the roots of dance music.

KEEP ON is a weekly Sunday party run by long-time DJs and music aficionados David Barbarossa and OOFT! in La Cheetah club Glasgow. Each week they delve into their extensive record collections to bring you an authentic sound track of deep disco, 80s boogie, Balearic, nice house, and assorted Global flavours. Running the vinyl through a nice hand-built rotary mixer elevates the vibe. The party has been running for close to 2 years now, so if you need a Sunday dance you know where to go.

Superhero/ Sound Manipulator


Flash Atkins is a super hero who had his gravy days in the 80s saving the world with his ability to manipulate sound.  Unfortunately he's fallen on hard times and can be spotted in the less salubrious parts of London, Manchester and West Yorkshire often stoned or drunk on borrowed money and time.

To make ends meet he uses his special powers to remix and make deep disco music for Paper Recordings.

Let’s hope it gets him back on track.
