We are the ones who define us. Such is the message of The Eskapist. A special character in the Figure universe, his productions have come to forge their own cosmos entirely, telling a mysterious tale of love, intrigues, and techno. 

Technology sits at this EPs heart, its machine-made tracks creating ambiance, vitality, and suspense across its varied runtime. It‘s tooly at times, yet all tunes sit and breathe their own distinct air, be it the shoving chords of upbeat (A1), an inquiry into the nature of reality on (A2), tunneling abysmal buzz that is (B1), or the stark computer-stomp of (B2). Ending on a philosophical note, The Eskapist underlines their mission statement as transporting meaning beyond their musicality and reminds us of our freedom and responsibility to define ourselves.

UNCAGE’s label owner Marco Faraone drops his second album on Rekids, focusing on an unrestricted, unfiltered soundscape inspired by childhood, entitled ‘No Filter’.

Since his initial appearance on Radio Slave’s esteemed imprint in 2018, Italian artist and label boss Marco Faraone has continued to enthuse techno communities across the globe, playing at the likes of Awakenings, Caprices, Tomorrowland and Kappa FuturFestival. With previous releases on Ovum, Drumcode and Be As One, the Tuscany-born artist has garnered the support of Len Faki, Rodhad, Laurent Garnier and many more.

‘Force Deep’ and ‘Iconic’ give the senses a relaxed flush of ecstasy and lofi-esque rhythm, while tracks like ‘Night Ride’, ‘Addiction’ and ‘No Filter’ lean more on a stripped back, beat focused dub techno tip. ‘Frogface’, and ‘Time Equals Eternity’ then flurry with signature drum programming, and otherworldly synth stabs. Finally, ’Trust Me’, propel forward with after dark atmospheres, giving this versatile and luscious album that mainstay place amongst any unique techno set.

Sharing the same forward-facing approach to techno music, it was about time that Roman DJ and producer Adiel lands her debut EP on Stroboscopic Artefacts. Just a few months on from the drop of the label’s anniversary compilation ‘X – Ten Years of Artefacts’, featuring the broadest array of talents including Rrose, Shifted, Efdemin, Denise Rabe, Chevel, Lucy and more, the timing couldn’t be better for both her and Lucy’s mind-expanding visions to unify.

Following on from an array of 12-inches on her own imprint, including a recent joint effort with Anthony Linell, ‘If Not Now When?’ is an ode to the all-enveloping strangeness of eternal nights that cuts a path of ecstatic light in the dark. Breaking the ice, the title-track plunges us in an effervescing pool of menacing reverbs, bloopy signals and rippling synth tides on a murky tip, while its faster and sharper twin ‘At The Bottom Of The Sea’ vigorously ups the ante to ensure optimal peak time firepower.

Flip sides and here’s ‘If Not Me Who’ diving even deeper into tape-echo’ed bizarro, swashing back and forth from blunt lo-freq frenzy to liquid-like levitation. ‘ESRR’ rounds off the package on a further freaky note, merging heavily processed vocals and swampy, octave-shifting keyboard movements to form a slice of wild, cross-pollinated electronics laid upon a much enticing techno swing. The very epitome of surgically executed dance music with a fascinatingly soulful, nearly shamanic edge to it.
