Perera Elsewhere is back with her first new album in five years. Entitled 'Home', the forthcoming record – due out on LA-based label Friends of Friends – sees the experimental 'doom-folk' artist born Sasha Perera exploring an even freer sound than she’s previously pursued, across records such as 'All of This' and 2013’s 'Everlast'. 

Weighty, meditative and fit to blast a hole out your speakers, her Crack Mix is a fine reconciliation of her wide-ranging interests, skipping between the jazz styling of Shabaka Hutchings and the seductive club sounds of Leonce via pacy thrillers from Nia Archives, DJ Hype, Miss Red and more. Crack Mix 465: Perera Elsewhere

For this season’s mix, I re-recorded what was the most practiced set of my life for the biggest gig I’ve ever played. Opening duties 11pm - 1am for MOMA Ready hosted by Research and Off99 (Thanks again guys). I was actually finishing up my Summer Mix when I got the call about this gig which was a very serendipitous, validating feeling. 

I planned, practiced and refined this mix for the better part of a month and still showed up anxious, sleep-deprived and without headphones (will never forget them now lol). Thankfully Keenan had some cans and after about a half hour or so the room started to fill up. I saw the exact people I was hoping to impress, vibing to the exact tracks I knew they’d go crazy for. Everything went as well as I had expected, truly a peak experience I will cherish. 

Anyway, the game plan was 30-45min of straight house (would maybe keep it chiller for longer next time). After that, I get weird and clubby for the chunk of peak time when I knew most people would arrive (this went over just as planned timing/vibe wise), then to segue back into 4x4 909 tracks to leave MOMA Ready in a familiar, mixable place. We ended up having some deck malfunctions at the end so it was fortunate my last track was a 10 min long 909 jam while everything got sorted. 

All in all, it was a blast, can’t thank everyone involved enough and can’t wait to throw down again some time soon!
