First up in our new series of magic podcasts is this brand new and totally hard-rocking mix of synthed-up slammers, jackers and bangers from Denmark's finest, Flemming Dalum. 

Flemming also served up the debut release on the Magic Waves label with his 3-CD 'Boogie Down Box-Set' years ago, already the stuff of Magic folklore along with his numerous guest appearances for the radio show on IFM and remix action for the gang over the years, and so he was a natural choice to kick proceedings off with. John Milk was born in 1985 in a non particular music versed family. He firstly got introduced to music and especially black music through his father discotheque mainly composed of country and Chicago blues.
“If I had to describe what music was for me at the age of 10, I think that John Lee Hooker would be the word” Especially a song called “Rainy Day” extracted from an album called “Don’t Look Back”. The atmosphere of this blues, the carma of John Lee Hooker hooked me! To my young ear, untrained to complicated music, this sound was great, it came to my ear, straight to my guts. It was not sophisticated. Looking back on that experience I think that I always kept this way of making music a cornerstone of what I would later compose. Music for the people, groove first!”
At the age of 12 John Milk got more into what was still an intuition: singing.  Taking music lesson at school like most of the kids of his age he had the chance to meet a pretty unusual teacher that confirmed his thoughts. 
“His name was Mr. Kasimo, a tall black guy very respected by all the pupils. I was studying in a pretty ruff school where a lot of us wouldn’t care about learning. In France we usually learn the flute to get into music. But this guy wouldn’t care. He was sitting at his piano and taught us how to sing songs like “Ready or not”, “You say yes”, Yesterday”. I remember that in order to pass the exam, we had to stand right in front of him facing the piano and pick up a song. How stressful this could be, I loved it. At the end of the day, he told me I had to do something with my voice. I was happy about it but didn’t really no what to do with it yet”

Making a living as an artist is a struggle in most parts of the world. It seems to be the borderless conundrum of having a passion for art and a fever to create. One perk of the job though, is that no matter where you go, you're bound to find family. No matter the city, around the bend of every club or bar there seems a familiar face. Odd Oswald was one of those blasts from the past that we found ourselves reunited with in our travels this past year. At one time a celebrated San Francisco disc-jockey and promoter -- Odd O aka Brian B stepped into the smoke of the European music scene and never looked back.  Busy behind the curtain as a label/tour manager for big name acts, we knew that his new found perspective could only have added to his already killer approach to digging and mixing. So, to show an old friend some new tricks, Odd made us this mix - his last one for us was back in 2012(http://bit.ly/2m1NoHv). The penchant for dark and filthy sonics that made his bay area sets such a delight are still present in this 2hr acidic rave-jog - but these selections are razor sharp, preposterously programmed, and grab you harder then the punch of an epi-pen.

This time in the shape of 5 incredible remixes by some of electronic music’s most intriguing and brightest stars.

Lehar, Luca Bachetti, Patrice Baumel, Termoment and Lost & Found head honcho Guy J have each reinterpreted their favourite off Khen’s future classic debut.

‘Imaginal Cells’ has been repurposed by the label boss himself into a beautiful slice of melodic goodness. With trippy FX details and a serene breakdown, its yet another Guy J classic rework. 

Diynamic's Lehar offers his take on the Khen and Guy J collabo ‘Prism’, turning down the intensity of the original with a sophisticated touch, he leads the track to deeper waters with an infectious melody that marries the familiar underlying key elements of the original in perfect symbiosis.

The sonic voyage continues with Luca Bachetti’s groovish take on ‘Authentica’. Adding to the recognisable lead melody, he gives the track an almost cinematic and atmospheric treatment that leaves you longing for more.

Patrice Baumel, fresh from the success of his recent remix of Cubicolor, tackles ‘Land of Goshen’. Taking the track in a more driving and pumping direction with a nod to 90s classic Trance, this track will cause a stir in sets from dusk to dawn.

Closing the collection on a trippy vibe with hints of old school Acid and an uncanny detailed soundscape that will leave you in awe, is Termoment’s take on ‘One Day of Independence’. A beautiful and fitting finalé to this weighty package of reworks.

Flemming Dalum, also know as King of the cut, discovered his musical journey at an early age. An interest based out of curiosity for electronic synthesizer legends emerging while he grew up. With his first synth, the Korg Polysix, a lifelong passion was born. He started playing in bands in 1982, experimenting with electronics and the new world of sounds and possibilities. At the same time he started experimenting with records and discovered a natural talent for mixing and blending synths with records, creating his own unique world of sound. In mind that the CD wasn't invented, neither was the HD recorder, the heart in Flemmings set-up was a simple cassette recorder. An invention that should soon add yet another angle to his musical universe. With snappy skills and imagination, the cassette soon became his most important instrument taking him to the next level. The world of mixing. With sampler, echomachine, decks, synths and a beloved cassette recorder, the first true mixes came out of his studio already in 1983. Mixes with so much detail, soon giving him the legendary name "King of the cut". In the same year, 1983, Flemming stumbled across Koto "Chinese Revenge", a discovery that should soon lead Flemming into a brave new world matching his own, with synths and electronics being the heart of the music. The passion became strong and shortly after the Koto discovery, brought him to his first trip to Milan, Il Discotto, Discomagic, Non-Stop, Merak etc. to investigate the Italo phenomenon in detail. The following years Flemming visited the Italian distributors 11 times which later proves to be one of the major reasons to the fact that he has one of the worlds most complete collections of Italo and Disco. Through the years, the synths has been replaced with computers and equipment matching the urge for mixing. Something that has kept the true Italo spirit alive and made Flemming Dalum a legend in mixing today.
