Estella's sultry vocals, vulnerable lyrics, and hypnotic production are an intimate experience. With her clear high range and plaintive mid range, her voice has notes of both Minnie Riperton and Hope Sandoval. Jet Pilot Jerry is a modern day rock band from Los Angeles, California. JPJ brings a wide array of influences, history, musicianship and styles to the table as a rock band that is heavily influenced by: southern, alternative, classic, prog and jam bands, while also having a great catalog of original material.  However, being products of a generation of having great rock standards, JPJ will surprise by going into: Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Yes, Rage Against the Machine, Allman Bros, Oasis, ELO, Tupac, Bruce Hornsby or whatever they have up their sleeve for that particular night!
Jet Pilot Jerry brings a combination of throwback arena rock and modern compositions that will keep you on your feet and have you remember why God made an electric guitar!

This Texas bred, Husband/Wife Acoustic Duo originally formed in Berlin, Germany in 2008 and are now located in Texas. The band is made up of founder J. Spencer Portillo (vocals / acoustic guitar) and Caroline Rippy Portillo (vocals / bass guitar). 

Caroline was born in San Antonio, Texas. From 2007 until 2012, she played bass guitar for Tito & Tarantula. J. Spencer Portillo was born in Los Angeles, California but was raised in Texas.  

The band has a distinctive sound that has been described as dark, romantic, ethereal, and haunting. "Niños Del Sol" features Rafael Gayol (Leonard Cohen), Steven Hufsteter (The Quick | Tito and Tarantula | Del Shannon), Jay Reynolds (Asleep at the Wheel), Mitch Hertz (Bloody Kids), Raiye Rippy and Jake Garcia (The Black Angels).

Flight Lessons

Flight Lessons is whatever it wants to be.  A project of David Sparrow of Los Angeles based rock band Burning Jet Black, the idea was created as an outlet for songwriting and collaboration.
Being a part of a band, there always tends to be material that just doesn’t “fit,” so in that spirit, these songs are open for interpretation by whoever happens to be willing to add something new to the bare bone structures.
If it turns into a folk song, so be it.  If it turns into a balls to the wall rock tune, so be it.  The existing material is all very sparse with the full intention of reinventing it in a live situation.

The live version of Flight Lessons was only recently born in April of 2013 with its first inception being David Sparrow accompanied by Ben Levy of local band, The Vintage Tuesday.  
Although it’s not a foreign concept of joining violin and guitar, the camaraderie of Levy and Sparrow created a new vibe to the existing music.  Not exactly rock n’ roll, but not sad bastard songwriter territory either.

As the project is only just taking off (pun intended) there’s not much else to say, except Sparrow is excited to see where it goes.
