This is a super rare recording of one of Quest's last shows together on UK soil. The improvisation, live beat-making and freestyles are just amazing, really representing the golden era of this genre. The outstanding documentary 'Beats Rhymes & Life - Travels of a tribe called Quest reminded us of the genius but to hear a full live show with all the classics is something else...

A Tribe called Quest 'Midnight Marauders' live Subterania 2.12.94 London UK

This was the Pharcyde's first gig in the UK and just as dope live as as on record. If you were there too and know the exact date please drop a line!
The group, along with producer J-Swift, recorded their first album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde, then was later certified Gold by the RIAA in 1996.The album was highly acclaimed, and became one of the most praised and influential alternative hip hop albums of the 1990s.
While all of the Pharcyde sing as well as rap, their greatest asset has to be the voice of Romye, stage name Booty Brown. It's a high and reedy sound with a hysterical edge, giving the perfect start to the single 'Passing Me By', in which the group detail their unrequited loves (Independent edit). I agree with K-Cut when he mentioned feeling like an outsider 'looking in' on today's scene. This a 'rough n ready' lost tape of a group in their prime, check out the innovation in cutting up samples and performing tracks. The use of 2 DJ's was not really used back then. This is the reason Flip the script is posting these rare recordings as a signpost to those who missed this golden era. I personally feel these guys don't get full recognition for their contribution to music...Breaking Atoms still smashes anything out today.

Main Source was a Toronto and New York based hip hop group comprising of Toronto's Sir Scratch and K-Cut, and Queens' Large Professor. The group's first album, Breaking Atoms, featured conscious tracks such as "Looking at the Front Door," "A Friendly Game of Baseball," and "Watch Roger Do His Thing," as well as the first on-record appearance of Nas on "Live at the Barbeque," which also featured Joe Fatal and Akinyele.
