Delivering the February podcast for us is @wees-url! A new name, mostly because he recently changed his artist name. Previously known as Procell, you may have seen him at Orphic, Basis or Vriendjes & Vriendinnetjes to name a few.

WEES helped us start this podcast series by creating the intro and now in addition to that a 2 hour podcast showcasing his new artistic direction for the very first time. In an endless journey into the unknown, looking for answers, WEES challenges the listener with emotional and obscure sounds.

[BIO]:
Ben, is an artist with a focus on creating a balanced combination of a more original and modern club-orientated sound. For the last six years, he has explored and experimented using various styles of techno. Intuitive and unique, his productions have been largely inspired by a Eurorack Modular Synthesiser.

An important point in his production development is the end of 2021, when his debut vinyl album 'Assorted Angles EP' was released on The Purist label. His talent is also visible in earlier releases for labels such as: Underdub Records, Sticky Ground, Modular Side Music, West Rules & Dstm.

Co-founder of Rhythm Werk, vinyl and Digital imprint focused on driving yet groovy rhythms and eclectic soundscapes.

The Composers 002 is a distance trip into our podcast station, showcasing a set by Divide who's alias of Davide Maio, Italian Sound Craftsman, one of the true techno quality exponents, also known for his work as one-half of the Syntaxism duo.

The set builds up like an opera but bringing rhythms directly to danceable territories in a complex synth crescendo.

In this piece of art, you can find almost every colour in the techno sound palette, from the ambient intro, to the deeply soundscaped last tracks. In between there is an abundance of beats and synths, evolving from relentless groove spiced with FM bells and resonant bleeps and dubbed subtle synth melodies in jazzy scales.

Random sequences and tight 909 drum workout, and melodies and arpeggios over a shuffled beat, complex evolving to more aggressive sounds approach.
Harshness acts, fat drums and resonant craziness spiced with wise handled distortion, reminded us the best moments of solid nineties techno: high BPM, well cooked chords and 909.
Sequences blend with each other, giving this chaos order feeling as a powerful and unforgettable unique piece.

Ly Sas joins for DifferentSound Podcast #191.

Growing up in Tbilisi, Ly Sas has started her musical path as a guitarist and songwriter for various bands. Subsequently, she started listening to electronic music records coming from Detroit and Berlin that were the main force behind her inspiration to start making and performing beats. She studied films in Prague which led her to the new passion in sound design and sound recording. Throughout the years she has shown that she is an artist with an unstoppable drive, work ethic and particular character. Her music draws upon groovy but pulls ambient and synth textures into its orbit too. Ly Sas has taken part in several VAs such as Brvtalist Sound Recording and has released 2 EPs, one of them is a collaboration with Ryogo Yamamori on 951Beat. Currently she spends lots of time in the studio, preparing for upcoming releases. She also plays an important part in ONYX line-ups together with Arnii and Fractions. Her DJ sets have always been energetic, groovy and constantly changing.

Spanish techno DJ and producer, who since 2016 started mixing the music he had been listening to for years. Spanish deejay recently settled in Utrecht (the Netherlands), he defines himself as a self-taught artist, constantly learning. "I don't like to classify myself within a genre as I let myself be guided by my emotions when it comes to selecting music or buying records. My musical influences come from my clubber side and the artists I have been lucky enough to meet throughout my life. Every day is an opportunity to discover new genres and experiment with new ideas".

1/ Who are you? What do you do?
I’m Léo, aka Quelza. DJ producer and barista based in Berlin. I’m trying to always turn everything that's going on in my head into sound, musical or atonal.

2/  Which track best represents your music?
Hard to choose, but I would say Richard Devine - Corina Chirac.

3/ What was your best DJ set?
My best memory so far is definitely at TRESOR last January. But my set in that secret Berliner rave « Redakted » last September was just magic! I really experienced a symbiosis with the crowd, it was also my last gigs before the second confinement. 

4/ When do you prefer to play in a party? 
Closing in a club for sure! Like my gigs at La Station for Spectrum last December, just after a great warm up by Lea Occhi and a killer set by Kaiser. Had so much fun!

5/ Your podcast in one word? Intimate.
