the year is slowly coming to an end and what a year it was. music gave me the opportunity to travel places, play for communities that i could only dream of just a blink of an eye ago. it let me be who i am and showed me once again what incredible bliss being with the right people in the right place at the right moment can bring.

one of my goals this year was to play more shows and gain experience as a dj. sometimes it felt like i was succeeding, sometimes it felt like things went astray - especially times when i tried to prove something to people that i was something i am not. there was euphoria and empty dancefloors, doubts next to high spirits - but in the end it feels like it was all well worth it.

with all this in mind i sat(!) down and recorded club random (六). the mix felt like a 2h long meditation. it’s colourful and fluid, sometimes dark yet bright, airy and dense all at the same time. hope you enjoy the ride!

"The road is incredible but has a lot of pitfalls." The fabric resident discusses striking the balance between DJing and production, the challenges of a life on tour and choosing to stick out.

Daniel Avery wasn't expecting to make it big. Born in the seaside town of Bournemouth, his early musical diet consisted of shoegaze, post-punk, electroclash and indie rock; he was a die hard fan in attendance at every local live show. But when he moved to London, he was introduced to dance music and became immersed in nightlife, meeting artists like Erol Alkan and Andrew Weatherall who were using the sounds of guitar bands with techno and electronic music for the dance floor. Soon Daniel was working out of a studio next to Weatherall's—who became his longtime mentor—and started warming up the dance floor at fabric on a regular basis. His debut album, Drone Logic, was released to critical acclaim in 2013, and has been followed by six more full-lengths and a number of EPs and singles since. 

In this episode of the RA Exchange, Avery reflects on the shock of being catapulted into the limelight after Drone Logic's unexpected success, and the ongoing struggle he's contended with as he's taken on a full-time touring schedule as a DJ. He also touches on his eclectic range of influences and how he's integrated them in his forthcoming album and newly revitalised fabric party series, Divided Love, which launches on March 2. the edges of and the connections between genres.

About The Mix:
I recorded the mix when i was in a really energetic and happy mood, a hint of spring and finally some sun in Berlin! I wanted to include my fav current peak time tracks in this mix, with lots of percussions and tribal-y vibes. Often I need several takes for a mix, but i was happy with this one from the first take on, i liked the flow and energy. After I recorded the mix, I knew I had to send it to Daisychain – somehow I had a gut feeling this could be a fit – and am so happy that Leesh really wanted to publish it!! <3 Thank you :)
