Adam Barnes - 'One Day We'll Be Fine'

Over the past few years, Oxford born singer/songwriter Adam Barnes has truly embodied the twenty-first century definition of a troubadour. In a bid to share his stirring songs of heartache with the world, the 23 year old singer has taken his music to the world, touring throughout Europe, across the USA and beyond, taking in many a sofa and floor along the way, and consistently wowing audiences en route.

The release of his debut album 'The Land, the Sea & Everything Lost Beneath' last summer - a stunning and subtle collection of English-bred Americana - saw the world suddenly come to Adam, increasing his fan-base and extending his travels to further reaches of the globe. With an ever-expanding listenership, Adam's musical ambitions have in turn grown, as can be heard on his new 5-track EP 'One Day We'll Be Fine', released on Sept 27th via his own newly founded imprint Wild Native Records.

Spectacularly produced by Sam Winfield (Amber Run, Pixel Fix), the EP opens with 'Darling', a real highlight not just on the EP but of Barnes' entire catalogue. Fragile and raw to start, this 4 minute wonder builds to an anthemic climax, littered with irresistible melodic hooks and smartly phrased lyrics throughout. Lyrically, the song examines the passing of time, the start of endings, and the natural human regret we can all feel about these things. Adam Barnes: "I guess 'Darling' is a song about the fear of everything ending...and about not telling the people you love what you feel before it's too late...". Honest and pure, 'Darling' is perhaps Adam Barnes' finest musical moment to date.

Lead single 'I Can't Love You Anymore' is another standout, four minutes of raw, chest-beating indie-folk - perfectly combining Barnes' pure, honeyed voice with clattering electric rhythms, Bon Iver-esque guitar lines, joyful harmonies, and a lyric brimming with honesty and integrity; it manages to be both intimate and seemingly capable of filling a stadium all at once. 

Lyrically inspired by the divorce of his parents in his late teens, writing the song was a cathartic experience for Barnes: "This is a song about my parents...towards the end of my late teens they split and it’s never really been something I’ve talked or written about before...but I had to, I know it's something so many people my age have lived through. 'I Can't Love You Anymore' is such a straight up sentence, but in that situation I guess it needs to be quite blunt."

Adam Barnes began his singer-song writing career in 2010 with early support slots for the likes of William Fitzsimmons and Slow Club in his hometown of Oxford. He has since released one EP ('Blisters') and one full-length album ('The Land, the Sea & Everything Lost Beneath"), both to critical acclaim throughout Europe, whilst his live performances have become renowned for their intimate intensity.
