Paris-born electronic music pioneer and 1970s GRM alumni Ariel Kalma joins with multinational New York trio Asa Tone (Kaazi, Melati ESP, Tristan Arp) for a series of intergenerational, electro-acoustic studio conversations, exploring elasticity within rhythm and winds… or as one early listener observed “space and time.”

Following a chance encounter at Ariel’s studio in the Australian rainforest during the pandemic, Melati & Kaazi began recording long live takes with Kalma, weaving in bioluminescent synth improvisations from Tristan Arp remotely. Revisited a few years later between the members of Asa Tone’s respective homes in New York & Indonesia, “○” is the document of a significant moment in the lives of all the album’s players; an ode to memory and connection in an era of crisis, illuminated via flickering fragments of steel flute, kantilan, modular synthesizer, xaphoon, tenor sax, EWI, field recordings of the surrounding rainforest, and the human voice.

About the Mix: 

My parents took me on my first camping trip when I was 3 years old. It wasn’t until I was 30 that I attended my first camping festival. Three weeks after that I attended my second camping festival, Bohême Système, where I played and recorded this mix.

I grew up in a rural place and spent a lot of time in nature. My personal connection to nature was one of few things (along with music) that felt truly genuine to me before I fully embraced my queerness. That impacted the way I approached playing and the mix that resulted in really felt like me at my fullest. I've been sharing it around privately, but when Iris asked me to make a mix for ULA something clicked and releasing this just felt right.

This mix is from 2023. Bohême Système didn’t happen in its regular sense in 2024, but I hear that they will be back in full force for 2025!

Small Crab is a Dublin-based DJ and Producer, and founding member of the Skin & Blister Collective - a platform dedicated to nurturing and supporting female-identifying, trans, and non-binary creatives. She also has releases on Early Reflex, Left, Right & Centre, Intercept, and Paryìa. 

She’s a master in low-end frequencies and dancefloor-crushing selections, so make sure you keep locked in for her 30 minute power mix. 


How Did It Get So Late? w/ Beaabea & Small Crab - 09/03/25 - Voices Radio

As Portland's @universal-broadcast prepares for the launch of their next release, Cracked Reflextion by Kagami Smile, local @auscultation lends support with a dreamy rework.

Blending the atmosphere of avant modernist @kagamismile with the subliminal beat of his Auscultation project, producer Joel Shanahan constructs a spatial shuffle, uplifting into sonic ether. Joel's involvement in the release, including this remix and the mastering of the album, helped to shape the record overall.

SPRING STRINGS at MOSTO live by Özgür and Florina

Florina Speth, born 1983 in the mountains near Salzburg, started playing the cello and piano at the age of 6 and began studying music at the “University Mozarteum Salzburg” when she was just 11. She won several prices playing solo and string quartett ensembles, was part of orchestras like Bayerisches Landesjugend Orchester and Salzburger Junge Philarmonie all over Europe. Always keenly interested in contemporary music, she was part of performing ensembles in lots of world premieres.

In her PhD she investigated the role of sound in robotic rehabilitation. She has been working as Postdoctoral researcher on Music, Machines and the Human hand. She has been working as a futurist, writing books on the 22nd century and future of health. These days she holds a professorship in Digital Health in which she tackles the humane tech-potentials for the silver society.

She loves bridging experimental arts with science to get inspiring output. In current live performances she works with cello and synths.
