MINI-INTERVIEW

What was your most significant club / festival moment?
"There were quite a few, but the most significant moment was actually this year. I was accepted into the label at "3000Grad" this year, which to this day, was an incredible happening for me. Then I also had the honor to play at the "3000Grad Festival 2021", the Saturday Closing on the Utopia stage. Through the trust of this incredibly warm-hearted crew and the whole energy of the dancing masses in the morning, I had to really fight with the tears when I then played the last track. Those were definitely tears of joy and happiness, quite an emotional moment for me. I'll still be releasing the set soon. I have waited until now because this set is especially important to me."

Who inspired you the most on your path as an artist?                                                                                                               
"There are too many good artists to name them all. The most I was through my friends, the fascination and love for electronic music. At some point I wanted to try it myself."

What do you want to express with your music?
"I am a really emotional person. At some point I started to process my experiences and emotions, whether beautiful or not so beautiful, with the music. My motto: head off, eyes closed and float away. From this arose at some point my very dreamy style. My closest friends, who know me well, often told me that the music reflects myself. Energetic forward with a softcore."

Lokalmatador Yann Berthung hat für uns nicht nur einen wunderschönen Podcast gezaubert, sondern auch jede Menge von sich Preis gegeben, viel Spaß beim Lesen:

1. Welche Musikrichtung hatte den größten Einfluss auf dich?
Erstmals so richtig zum „Musikfan“ wurde ich rückblickend wohl als Jugendlicher und durch deutschen HipHop von Blumentopf, Torch oder Samy Deluxe. Aber auch die CD- und Plattensammlung meiner Eltern habe ich regelmäßig durchstöbert. Da stößt man dann schnell auf eine bunte Mischung von Musikgiganten wie Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Simon & Garfunkel oder auch Bob Marley. Während der Abizeit war ich dann feiertechnisch ziemlich mainstreamig unterwegs, sprich EDM- und chartlastig. Zuhause habe ich dann eher Singer/Songwriter oder Indierock ausgepackt. Zusammenfassend hatte also sicher jede Phase einen Einfluss darauf, dass ich irgendwann den Techno lieben lernen durfte.

2. Wie lange legst du schon auf?
Ich lege seit meinem 17. Lebensjahr auf. Damals noch auf Abipartys. Mit Anfang 20 habe ich ca. drei Jahre lang auch auf Hochzeiten gespielt :-D Rückblickend eine enorm wichtige DJ-Erfahrung. Denn ich glaube, ich habe dadurch viel über Crowd-Reading gelernt. 

3. Wie würdest du deinen Sound beschreiben?
Die aktuell treffendste Definition wäre wohl Melodic Techno. Ich mag es aber sehr, verschiedene Sub-Genres innerhalb der elektronischen Musik zu kombinieren. Auf meiner Festplatte tummeln sich daher neben Melodic Techno überwiegend klassische Techno-, Afro House- oder Electronica/Downtempo-Tracks. Allerdings sind diese Zuordnungen wie wir alle wissen auch wahnsinnig subjektiv. Ich spiele also einfach, worauf ich Bock habe und was miteinander harmoniert.

4. Was war dein bisheriges musikalisches Highlight?
Als Allererstes fällt mir da das „Dockville Festival“ 2015 ein. Damals habe ich noch unter dem Pseudonym Weisser Rabe aufgelegt. Es war das erste große Festival, auf dem ich spielen durfte und im Nest waren damals sicher fast 2000 RaverInnen – das war magisch! Auch auf dem „Feel Festival“ 2018 zu spielen, war ein besonderes Erlebnis. Ja, und was natürlich jedes Jahr immer ein besonders Highlight ist, ist das „Katzensprung Festival“ zu deren Künstleragency ich mittlerweile auch gehören darf und welches von ganz wunderbaren Menschen organisiert wird, die grade jetzt jede erdenkliche Unterstützung verdienen.

5. Wie geht es dir mit dieser „clubfreien“ Zeit?
Ich bin durch meinen Job als Arzt in der privilegierten Situation, nicht alleine von der Musik leben zu müssen. Die „clubfreie“ Zeit belastet mich also nicht finanziell, sondern „nur“ emotional. Allerdings hätte ich es vorher nicht für möglich gehalten, wie sehr mir das Auflegen oder das privat in Clubs feiern und auf Festivals gehen, fehlen würde. Das ist schon extrem bitter. Besonders weh tut es aber zu sehen, wie schwer es für viele meiner guten Freunde aus der Szene ist, die kein zweites Standbein und dadurch jetzt tatsächlich Existenznöte haben.

Shurti is a raver baby from the 80's born and raised in the Netherlands. Growing up in the 90's in Holland meant growing up with the early hardcore/gabber sounds from Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
Quite early in his life he discovered his love for mixing fast electronic music. Now more than 25 jears later with his homebase in Berlin, this gem is able to play almost every kind of electronic music on the decks. Mostly progresive rhythms deep, melodic sounds with punchy kicks and pumping grooves,  between 110 and 150 bpm. It's hard to talk about genres, he lets the flow decide what to play.
