Mad Dog of DC - First I’d like to thank you for accepting my invitation to do a 30 for 30 House Music Mix collaboration with me! I really enjoyed what we achieved and look forward to future collaborations with you! What did you enjoy about the project?
Karly K - It's not often that I get the chance to collaborate with another artist who has as much passion for house music as I do!! Thanks Mad Dog!! Arranging a 30 min set was a lot of fun & I wanted it to reflect not only my style & preferences but to also compliment the first 30 mins, I really believe that challenge was met.

Mad Dog of DC - What led you to get into deejaying?
Karly K - I have always been a collector of vinyl since the mid-eighties, I was really influenced by the synth pop sound of the eighties & that naturally led to a love of house music in all it's forms.

Mad Dog of DC - Who would you say are some of your major inspirations in the field of deejaying?
Karly K - The man like Sasha is definitely my biggest inspiration..one of his mixtapes from 1991 is still in my collection. For 30 years I have been following his career & evolution & he is still pushing the boundaries. Paul Oakenfold is also a god in my eyes & his influence on house music over the decades is mind blowing!! I have to mention Armin Van Buuren, as he has also been a huge player in my love for electronic music..the one thing they all have in common is they have all carried the torch for house music in it's various forms & I thank them all for that!!

Mad Dog of DC - How long have you been deejaying?
Karly K - 28 years...hahaha I might be giving away my age!!

Mad Dog of DC - What advice would you give to someone who is just getting started and is interested in deejaying?
Karly K - Play the music you love & learn the basics of beatmatching. I was lucky to have learnt with vinyl & on Technics 1210's, which gives me distinct advantage when using controller's or CDJ's. It's really important to understand the importance of what key's work together. I have a musical background but for those that don't, the Camelot wheel is an excellent tool for the basics!!

Mad Dog of DC - What do you like most about deejaying?
Karly K - The moment when you discover a great blend..I love that!! Deejaying has personal moments of satisfaction but most of all it's the joy that you can bring to people's lives through sound, now that's a rare commodity...

Mad Dog of DC - What is it that you like most about House Music?
Karly K - House music to me brings many emotions in it's endless forms!! Personally, it gives me energy, love and good times!! If someone asked me to describe house music in one word I would say, positivity!!

I can hardly believe it, but I'm approaching my 900th DJ set since I started in 2020! After countless hours of practice and performance, I'm excited to say that I recorded a live set I’m super proud of - one that truly captures my style and my passion for house music.

I call it "Transition" and it's all about the art of seamlessly blending tracks and creating a journey that takes the listener on a ride. With this set, I pressed play and poured my heart and soul into selecting the perfect tracks, crafting each transition, and creating a vibe that I know will move you.

As a DJ, I've learned that it's all about the connection between the music and the crowd. With "Transition" I'm confident that I've captured that connection, delivering a mix of energy, emotion, and pure house vibes.
