On remix duties we welcome the amazing German / South African duo LADS for their MNL debut. They take the title track in a mystique and mysterious direction and instantly show why they are one of the hot names to watch at the moment. Not that they have to prove themselves anymore; their releases on Lost & Found, Rebellion de Traümer, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Magician on Duty pretty much speak for themselves.

Released in early 2021 as part of Simos Tagias' "The Purge" EP, the accompanying track "Black Swan" equally caught everyone's attention with it's edgy and sophisticated production quality along with it's mind-bending journey. For Juicebox Music's 47th release, we present new remixes of Simos Tagias' "Black Swan", courtesy of Mike Rish and Praveen Achary.

Making his debut appearance on our imprint is Melbourne (Australia) native - Mike Rish. After a few years of alternate aliases for different sounds, Mike aims at pushing the progressive vibe under his own name and with a few EPs and remixes already under his belt, he's reinforcing the quality-over-quantity mantra. Wasting no time, he released his debut album on UGENIUS Music titled "Interlinked" in early 2021, which rightfully earned the #1 and #2 spots on Beatport's Top 10 Progressive House and Overall Charts, respectively. The LP perfectly encapsulates his love of electronic music, ranging from the depths of rumbling techno to the heights of soaring progressive. Mike Rish's remix for Simos Tagias' "Black Swan" takes all the original memorable moments while adding his own signature flair through a tribal-chugging groove, additional counter-melodies and drone-filled atmospherics.

Juicebox Music label owner and Bangalore-based artist - Praveen Achary makes his return after a hiatus from producing music, with his last production being a remix of Eric Lune's "Wooden Bird" on our imprint back in 2019. Praveen's body of work contains a number of high-profile features, including Mitch Alexander's "microCastle", Cid Inc's Replug", as well as an official remix of Above and Beyond's "We Are All We Need". Praveen Achary's take on Simos Tagias' "Black Swan" focuses on keeping the main elements slightly intact while retelling the story in a new light with a more aggressive approach.

A prolific and equally talented artist, Rick Pier O'Neil has won a host of plaudits for his "One Side of the Underground" series. Now reaching its fifth outing, the "Vol, 5" opener sees Rick join forces with Anthony G, a successful producer on the likes of Balkan Connection, Stellar Fountain and RPO Records. Driven by a pounding beat and subterranean bass groove, a heads-shaking percussion lays the foundation for a rich collage of melodies to flow across "Kohana" in powerful fashion. Ethereal vocal touches add further to the entwined motifs as a cascading arpeggio increases intrigue. Another collaboration sees Modern Agenda, Dopamine White and RPO Records contributor, Echo Daft, create a multi-faceted offering in "Vatsalya". A rolling rhythm creates the perfect vehicle for a swathe of motifs to swirl across the stereo spectrum and a central melody is repeated to potent effect. Once again vocal treatments add to the overall feel as the track waxes and wanes with ease in a progressive house powerhouse. The third original track sees O'Neil in solo guise as a club-friendly bassline soon finds a layer of melodies sat elegantly atop to create a glorious soundscape that revels in textured pads and gated white noise patterns. A deep and mesmerising offering, "Chaliponga" is full of the trademark flair that is so prominent in the French star's music.

Trilucid need little introduction to the underground dance faithful. A UK duo with a host of impressive production credits to their name for Perspectives Digital, Colorize and Songbird, their work for Proton Music has seen 2019s "Glint" and 2020's "Astral" (the latter with Phil Martyn) light up the label with a vibrant and memorable sound. Remixing Petar Dundov's "Salvation" in late 2020, Trilucid now return with a typically impressive remix of "The Sinner". Wrapped in a chunky rhythmic groove, familiar refrains from O'Neil, Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's original shine through amidst a chorus of new production work from the Trilucid studio. As the track evolves a stunning new motif is revealed that commands the listener's attention as it perfectly syncopates to the new percussive backdrop. Building in intensity, the breakdown and third movement showcase Trilucid's abundant skill and craftsmanship.

Fresh from a successful remix of Juan Deminicis and the forthcoming "Run Only Run" EP on Particles, Gux Jimenez has carved out quite a name for himself from his Cartagena home. A veteran of over 200 production credits since a 2008 debut, music signed to UV, Clubsonica Records and Balkan Connection have kept the Argentinean firmly in the limelight. Now debuting on Proton Music, the Gux Jimenez remix of "Imperial" takes the track on a driving voyage of meandering melodic flow, capturing themes that resonate with the original in new and exciting directions as soaring phrases coruscate within a rich sonic tapestry. The powerful groove adds a dynamic edge to proceedings and a rippling arpeggio in the second half adds class and maturity to an impressive debut.

New original tracks plus remixes from Trilucid and Gux Jimenez keep Rick Pier O'Neil front and centre "One Side of the Underground".

Greece and Russia join forces in a new movement through the Balkans where Tash and Mango find a "Lost" musical world. Elemental basslines pulsate through the earth's magnetic fields as hypnotic rhythms guide and control lustrous textures. Cascading arpeggios rise and fall to build new sonic patterns and subtle melodic phrasing finds its place. Rising from the Baltic coast, Rauschhaus returns with ice cool melody and reimagined intrigue. Entwined motifs are Lost' within each other in smooth melancholy and haunting vocal refrain. Clubland rhythms find their mark through snare rolls and powerfully pitched drop in a new mesmerising interpretation.

Diverse musical backgrounds combine within cosmopolitan Buenos Aries where childhood's end brought shared synthesised dreams. Oliver and Tom find a new lost' memory that floats through a haze of shimmering pads, analogue lines and subtle pulsing waves. Motifs shine and chord progressions provide a new hope among familiar bassline presence. Meanwhile, a lost Roman settlement sits on the Iberian Peninsula where Kyotto defines a new vision across the Atlantic Ocean. Resonant bass force rumbles under heavy beat and raw energy. Light melodies float across the bay in perfect juxtaposition where familiar patterns echo within a new voyage of discovery and new vocal phrasing creates an understated shift in emphasis.

A Particles regular, Chihaka returns to the label with his third original EP in the shape of "Ndarasika". Showcasing his varied production skillset, the South African artist shone through October 2019's "Nyara" and May 2020's "Pinda" while remixes for Pole Folder, Ric Niels and about : river have shown another side of his production craftsmanship. The title track is an elegantly crafted affair with smooth percussive flow and beautiful melodic riffs that glitter and glide in rippling delayed glory. A guitar riff comes to the fore in a stripped back breakdown as a powerful drop brings emotion and spine-tingling joy to "Ndarasika" with its epic key changes and mirrored bassline. Partner track "Kupisa" continues the strong melodic narrative as a pitched and squelchy synth pluck bends a path over powerful beat and shaker-driven percussion. A sub-bassline adds depth while a beautiful piano layer adds emotion to the filtered synth elements at the mid-point. The result is an immaculately crafted affair that adds to Chihaka's already potent Particles arsenal.

Petar Dundov is an iconic figure within the underground dance fraternity. A litany of releases for the most prominent labels has been accompanied by a growing list on Proton Music, not least in December 2020's "Salvation / Nature of Nature" EP and the forthcoming "Spark / Day Unseen". Remixes of Huminal and Simos Tagias have added to that portfolio as the Croatian now makes his Particles debut. Taking on "Ndarasika", the Petar Dundov remix is fuelled by a trademark hypnotic framework that bristles with analogue power as bassline and arpeggio pave the way for sparkling synth overdubs. Hitting its stride with clever use of Chihaka's original components, a sympathetic key change sees the running bassline hold sway as melodic elements shift around it. The result is an interpretation that illustrates why Dundov is always in-demand as the guitar part so prominent in the original swirls around an epic third movement.

A strong collaborative bond sees about : river continue to ride an increasingly powerful wave of success. Through a blend of dance music credentials and organic instrumentation, the father and son partnership has been a regular on the likes of Nie Wieder Schlafen, not least in 2020's "Silver Dusk" EP. June 2021's Go Into The Mist" was a remarkable Particles debut EP with its thematic flow and remixes from Chihaka and Dandara. Now, about : river return the favour with a stunning reworking of "Ndarasika" that melds the twin skillsets of Oleg and Ervin. A striking percussive groove creates a head-shaking backdrop for Chihaka's production elements to take centre stage before a huge Moog bassline from about : river enters the fray in unexpected manner. Repeating itself throughout the second half, broken beats and familiar melodies are wrapped around new production material in an intriguing and innovative new remix.

Shining brightly with "Ndarasika", Chihaka once again displays remarkable talent, suitably complemented by Petar Dundov and about : river.
