When I first saw the movie 'Men, Women & Children" last year, I totally fell on love with the original music by https://soundcloud.com/bibio. Since that day I was working on a cover version of 'Preen Your Own Wings' - a beautiful indie chill track with soft vocals and a lovely melody.

Some weeks ago, when Thomas aka https://soundcloud.com/zuurb (Polarlichter Radioshow) told me, that he was going to compile a special mix for this year's advent calendar by https://soundcloud.com/das-kraftfuttermischwerk, he asked me, If I got something quiet in progress. A great reason for me to get back on that project and finally finish it!

'Earthworks' is Thom Brookes' debut album as Drombeg, following his acclaimed EP ‘Notes From The Ocean Floor’ in 2015. A soundtrack for the middle-of-nowhere, the wild landscapes of Brookes' native Southern Ireland are littered with historic (Tumulus), and geological (Béarra) structures hardened under the relentless elements. Sinuous string melodies, and tender piano phrases reach like sunlight breaking through heavy clouds, blended with electronics and field recordings in careful balance to produce a rich cinematic sound.

Six months later, I was still pulling my hair out in some kind of quest to make the perfect mix. As someone who has never really done mixes before, I learned a lot of things along the way and the whole experience was very inspiring. I decided to approach the mix in a similar way as I would one of my scores. This is the soundtrack of my life. FatCat Records’ 130701 imprint has played a pioneering role in the development of today’s vibrant post-classical scene. It has introduced the likes of Max Richter, Hauschka, and Set Fire To Flames, and been home to Sylvain Chauveau, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Dustin O’Halloran. 

With its fifteenth anniversary approaching on 13th July 2016, 130701 is celebrating with the release of a compilation featuring eleven exclusive tracks - one from each of the artists to have graced the roster over the past fifteen years, plus three new signings - Ian William Craig, Olivier Alary and Resina - whose first 130701 albums are each set to appear this year. Curated and compiled by 130701’s David Howell, none of these tracks has previously seen a physical release.

My father died on 16 March 2011.  His body had battled emphysema for years.  After complications caused by a bout of pneumonia he finally succumbed.  In the aftermath of these events I turned to my piano for solace and escape.  The resulting record attempts to address the emotions experienced during the 7 days between his death and funeral.  In collaboration with Ed Hamilton, who brilliantly tapped in to my experience and emotion, and with contributions from Christoph Berg, this record is about, and in memory of, my father. - Euan
