Been workin' on a little game -- an overhead, zelda-like but more sparse and weird and not as good obv. But it's been fun! Here's a track I wrote that might fit in the game~ I want it to sound like a big space but alive and breathing. a bit more ambient than I usually write but it fits the game? wip.

Yessir, a while back--couldn't've been more than a week or two ago--a tiny speckled frog hopped up to my back porch, a miniature squeeze box on its back. Said he was Frederic and that he'd play me a song. And by God he did! I transcribed it as fast as he played it, thinking it a highly notable event; I don't know 'bout y'all, but frogs don't play many serenades around these parts, much less play 'em to us humans... not to mention the tune wasn't half bad either! He played and I wrote, and when he finished and sat back down I named it "Frederic (that was his name, remember) the Frog's Nighttime Jig". On this point, he emphatically disagreed; y'see, he argued that his piece was anything but a jig, as it wasn't by any stretch in triple time. Try as I might to convince him that the public wouldn't mind, and that it was quite the catchy title, my words just slid off his back--a frog's back'll do that--after which he gave up trying to change my mind and played a big fat 'D' flat to drown me out. I reckon when the royalties on the sheet music start making their way back to him, he'll appreciate my talent for marketin'.

Found some really nice musicbox samples the other day, so I tried writing something exclusively with them. Came out alright I think, but the biggest hurdle writing for it was dealing with its teeny tiny range; a little over two octaves! I feel the musicbox's character comes from its plinky narrow set of tones though, so no sample stretching.

Clarie and the Dusty Musicbox

First track done for 5090; it's a musical adaption of a fairy tale called "Prince Hyacinth and the Dear Little Princess", well the beginning of it anyway. In it, a King learns that the object of his love is under a spell, breakable only by stomping on her cat's tail. Hence the fun slapstick section at around :43. Eventually the Princess sings an ancient lullaby that puts the Cat to sleep. You can read the whole fairy tale here:
