Palmer Park 7/24/13 GROUP ONE

The special thing about this track is that there is nothing special about it.  Flux Bikes PüQ3EST traced the Illinois River last September, from its confluence with the Mississippi to Chicago, the source of the Pü. Rob and Katharina noted the presence of barges, tug boats, trains, power lines, generators, and automobile traffic along this industrialized waterway. Then during a stop at Sand Ridge State Forest, we finally found a place (almost) devoid of human sound. On this recording you'll hear some Blue Jays, Cicadas, and Short-winged Meadow Katydids, etc.Sand Ridge has sand prairies, prickly pear cacti, and pine trees combined in one unlikely place; Illinois.

“Sounds for Thalweg Flag” is a sound piece made for "Thalweg Flag" by Lisa Alvarado in Ballroom Marfa's current exhibition, 'unFlagging.'

This piece was created by Natural Information Society, an ensemble founded by Joshua Abrams that features Alvarado on harmonium. The sound work, which includes newly composed, improvised and found sound, builds from components of “Thalweg Sounds,” a composition developed for Alvarado’s solo exhibition Thalweg at the Bridget Donahue Gallery in Summer 2020. With “Sounds for Thalweg Flag” Alvarado considers a liminal space, a fluid pathway of shifting water and sediment where layers of memory continuously mix and reconfigure.
