Gent1e $oul keeps evolving his dancefloor meta with "Block Printing '', the latest EP on Fast Castle. This DLC consists of 5 stripped down, effective takes on UK Bass, Dubstep, Grime and Baile - excellent for outright late game domination. The vinyl comes in hand-crafted sleeves produced in an ancient woodblock printing method on a manually operated, pre-industrialisation printing press.

Sonically, Gent1e $oul further distills his style by fusing different sonic spheres and bass music styles across “Block Printing''s chapters: Profoundly effective 4-bar grime meets transparent electro breaks on “Heated Shot”, with it’s hi-tek sounds forcing early reactions from the floor. “Siege Ram” is a techno x steppers crossover that packs the punch to keep your opponents stuck in the dark ages forever. “Untitled” channels baile cues into a rigid, progressive club cut, while the B-Side offers a UK Techno meets dembow deepness with “Fortified Walls”. Rounding off the proceedings, Rolex3k makes here exec. producer debut with a feature on “Turtle Ship”, a deeper-than-deep dub stepper.

"Block Printing"’s cover, conceived by Fast Castle’s visual mastermind Jonas, depicts an emblematic circle monograph hinting to prehistoric scenes and ancient legends. Special care went into the production of the DIY-printed record sleeves: Individually crafted on an ancient 1820s mechanical press and printed in a block printing-like technique from a laser cut wood negative, each of the edition-of-200 vinyl copies is a one-of-a-kind artifact to worship and rinse repeatedly.

Very special shout outs to Jonas from 200 Kilo on this one conceiving and realizing our most ambitious artwork project to date. Also, out to Scape Mastering for the sound optimization and RWDFWD and DnP for international distro services!

We are proud to present ‘Undercurrents’, the third series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program.

Started in 2020, the Mentoring Program run by label owner Martyn has become a worldwide online and IRL community of artists sharing resources, ideas and inspiration. This compilation showcases the wide range of fresh and amazing music that is continuously surfacing from the program, unbound by strict genre definitions.

Besides a collection of new music, Undercurrents is also a consideration of what a record label can be in 2024. Whether it’s a platform for repurposing old material, providing daylight for new sounds, artists or even entire communities, or injecting new ideas about authenticity and sustainability into the current of the underground, rather than partaking in the unwinnable race over algorithm dominance. An understated approach for maximum impact.

Premier single de notre prochain album à paraître chez Human Disease Network, “NRJ du Désespoir”  annonce un virage radical par rapport à nos précédentes sorties, avec des synthétiseurs agressifs, des rythmes complexes et un soin particulier apporté au sound design.
Le morceau évoque l’ambiance racoleuse des émissions tardives de radios grand public où se succédaient canulars téléphoniques, derniers potins de stars et les hits du moment.
Ces références sont samplées et concassées jusqu’à l’abstraction dans un amalgame de sons empruntés à diverses esthétiques : breakbeat, trance, acid, garage et bass - des échos des années 2000 résonnant dans une ère futuriste et plurielle.

Pour le remix : On voulait que ce track soir remixé par Yssue, artiste russe installé à Paris qui nous a littéralement sidéré avec son album How To Survive a Bad Trip sorti l’an dernier chez Global Warming Records. L’accent est mis sur les samples de voix abstraits tirés de jingles radios et entraîne le morceau vers un territoire club avec une inventivité incontrôlable.

Suddenly the signal breaks. A violent white hiss screaming though the studio monitors. Somebody rushes through the door ‘the police have entered the building’. Immediately we grab our records and make for the stairs. It used to be a school I think, it was old and big.
No one was even sure if the DTI knew we were operating from it and it was possible it was just a raid on the squatters who lived there. Nevertheless, we all piled onto the roof, laughing nervously about how stupid it all was.
After some time without incident, we ventured cautiously back into the bowls of the old building. The studio was as we had left it, untouched, undiscovered. We knew somewhere across the city a crew would be working to re-establish the signal. We’d be back on the airwaves before morning.

Berlin-based French artist Vonverhille and Parisian composer REMO, the duo behind DEF MUSIC, have unveiled the project’s debut EP ‘Life Drawing’. The project finds its home comfortably on LAN, an originally Berlin but now Naarm/Melbourne-based label by Willis Anne.

‘Love Audition’, the release’s 5th track, is a pacing, speedy and introspective dive into EBM and proto-trance.  Swirling synths are kept in line by consistent claps and percussion, peppered with moments of reprieve and punchy kicks. 

Of the release, label head Willis Anne shared that:

“Fusing REMO’s deep-rooted psytrance and bass influences with Vonverhille’s signature experimental and electro sound, the release channels their distinct musical journeys into a raw, club-driven experience. Hybrid creation, 'Life Drawing' offers a vivid portrait of their shared sonic universe, and marks the culmination of their years-long collaboration, first sparked by a track on a compilation, now fully realised in this electrifying joint release.”

‘Life Drawing’ releases digitally via LAN’s Bandcamp this Thursday, April 10.
