In the desert, the stars
shine down coldly across
infinity's dark plains

as though there could still be
purpose in this empty
and once glittering place 

the dark sands and cold lights 
of a vaulted midnight 
still stretch to the endless

and all that has changed is 
that you are not here and 
I watch the skies alone
