Home By Hovercraft defies categorization, combining folk, rock, theatrical and classical influences into a singular sonic stew. But make no mistake: This outfit is hardly a streamlined one. Led by husband and wife duo Seth Magill (vocals / tuba) and Shawn Magill (piano/ vocals / xylophone), the band has the uncanny ability to push the creative envelope while staying in accessible territory. An example? Well, Seth’s sister Abbey Magill who dances Irish Step, performs in the rhythm section. 

Rounded out by Max Hartman (drums), Johnny Sequenzia (mandolin / harmonica), and Becki Howard (violin) they have an eclectic sound, drawing comparisons to bands that have put a classical twist on indie rock, like the Dresden Dolls and Beirut. Classically informed yet pop in translation, their wall of sound lushly envelopes you in a bouncing stomp. You will sing. You will dance. You will have a better day after hearing this bold, caring, anthemic music at it’s best. 

Home By Hovercraft recently unveiled another interesting trick: Their debut LP, Are We Chameleons?, craftily engineered by Paul Williams and mastered by James Driscoll, features original songs for On The Eve, a new musical earning rave reviews for its recent world premiere. Their performances at the Dallas Observer Music Awards showcase, AT&T Perfoming Arts Center Patio Sessions and Art Conspiracy Seed Event have turned heads. HxH has shared stages with Marcy Playground, Suzzana Schoefel, Dan Dyer, Air Review, Gaelic Storm, The Killdares, The O’s, Daniel Hart, Gallery Cat, John Singer Sergeant and others.

How do you challenge the Powers That Be? How do you shake things up and rail against the status quo? The obvious answer is…you create a new rock musical about a time-traveling hot air balloon, Marie Antoinette, and a would-be hero with a really cool gun. 

ON THE EVE is the almost entirely true story of Marie Antoinette and the first time-traveling hot air balloon. With Revolution on the horizon and a husband who is generally lacking, Antoinette turns to a space-busting aeronaut, a crazed scientist, and a beautiful muse to set things right in her kingdom before launching them on their way to a different time to take on Politics, the Church, Science, and a crazy dude in a bowler hat.

Must Get There marks the debut for Majestique on Eskimo Recordings. The original is situated in that wide area we call “disco” and is backed with remixes by Martin Dubka and Drop Out Orchestra.

Bursting from the digital underground is Majestique, a Dutch production duo that grew up in the mid eighties. After they ran into each other, they discovered a shared passion for strange chords, running arpeggiators and dusty drum computers. A passion that is possibly programmed in their brains by influencers like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Giorgio Moroder. With sudden access to unlimited analog machines, it felt like a higher power was trying to tell these guys it was time to create something timeless in a digital era where music is consumed so quickly.

Must Get There is taken from the upcoming Eskimo compilation that will be out after summer.
