On Friday 8th September Morocco was struck by the strongest earthquake on record for over a century. Hitting the High Atlas mountains, around 70 kilometres southwest of Marrakesh, the 6.8 magnitude quake has killed over 3000 people and impacted the lives of over 300,000 more.

As a way to raise funds for families and communities impacted by the disaster, we’ve rallied friends together for ‘Tadamoun: A Compilation for Moroccan Earthquake Relief’.

Compiled in collaboration with Geneva-based DJ and producer Reda Saiarh, the release features 24 tracks contributed by artists from across Europe, including Anatolian Weapons, Romain FX, Justine Forever, Cornelius Doctor, Zaatar and more. Musically it travels across many sounds and styles too, from ambient electronica, trip hop and leftfield bass to chugging Italo, jackin’ new beat and trippy techno.

All proceeds will be split 50/50 between two charities who are helping to raise money for those affected and to rebuild communities that have been devastated: Atlas Kinder, a charity who supports abandoned children in Morocco, and Insaf, a non-profit organisation that protects and supports women and children.

DJ, producer and compilation curator Reda Saiarh: “‘Tadamoun’ means Solidarity in Arabic - my mother instantly suggested this word as the title of the release. Following the events [in Morocco], I wanted to help in a way that brought many talents and friends together. Artists from different countries around the world showed their appreciation to Morocco and its population in a moment of communion. In response to tragedy, music is the answer - I encourage you to help and share by purchasing this various artists' compilation. A list of charities is available for anyone who wants to donate or help directly, and we also suggest you listen to other compilations that are helping the same cause including these from Astro Fever International and ZNZL.

I'm really thankful to all the artists on the compilation for contributing their brilliant music for such a great cause. It means a lot to make a fusion of worldwide artists and especially friends, including the Hard Fist Crew, Neskeh and Romain FX, as well as Rosie for her outstanding coordination behind the scenes. My sister has also been really involved, collecting donations and resources for families who are affected. This was a family affair from the beginning - thanks to Ransom Note for making it happen!”

Diego Montiel - STEP 7 (Original Mix) [Side Up Works]

There are some characters and labels so intertwined with the story of specific music genres that is virtually impossible to discuss them without mentioning the importance and relevance of such masterminds and imprints. Take the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene for instance. We dare you to talk about it without bringing up Sir Neil Parnell aka Tronik Youth (SXDNS050) and his mighty platform NEIN Records during your music talks.

With a behemoth of a catalogue overflowing with dark cuts, NEIN is undoubtedly one of the most vital outlets in the dark side of music. Neil is equally impressive, distilling his creativity with a plethora of originals and collaborations throughout his career of twenty-something years. Having a NEIN-only year so far, he brings to life his third EP of the year and invited Fred Berthet and Calystarr for the remix duties. Premiered here, the latter’s contribution.

Adrián Peña Sánchez aka Calystarr is a DJ and producer from Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz. For his third appearance on NEIN, his mission of providing an interpretation for the big boss must have been a tough one – but nothing that would make the skilled Spanish virtuoso have cold feet. His complex and stark version brings together a few of his main influences, resulting in an intricate concoction of Cold Wave, EBM, and Industrial with a kind of spooky aura.

@dc-salas returns to his own Higher Hopes imprint for their third edition via the collaborative project Los Niños Del Parque with Anthony Barbarich (aka Mirror Minds), a release 15 years in the making.

The Los Niños Del Parque project came about due to the duo's mutual musical background & influence: 2000's electroclash, early electro house, new wave, new beat, and more. The idea is to produce something playful and true to the duo's roots. The EP was over four years in the making due to various obstacles, the title 'Frequencias Eternas' (Eternal Frequencies) tells the story of two long-time friends, connected to each other in one way or another.

The release is rounded off with a remix by the talented Badaboum & Rinse France resident Belaria.

In a land of beats, Kate Stein's quest, For Vegus, remixed by New Hook, the best. Rotten City Recordings, her rhythmic delight, Dancing through the night, chasing the light.

Vinyl spun with a magical twist, In remix realms, she couldn't resist. "Vegus, oh Vegus, where do you hide? In New Hook's remix, let beats coincide."

Through echoes and melodies, a whimsical dance, Kate found Vegus, a stroke of chance. With a grin on her face, she declared with glee, "Thanks to New Hook's remix, Vegus found me!"

Kate Stein's dark and voyeuristic Mentalphysics EP drops on Rotten City Records shortly. New Hook's desire-driven throbber is a journey into the sensual cold wave universe.

Bobby Langfield, whose life story in a nutshell you have just read above, is the mastermind behind the brand-new UK-based Indie Dance project OBOST, and his debut EP is coming hot on NEIN Records at the dusk of the year. "I Don't Care For You" presents two interesting originals and two sturdy remixes made with love by none other than Fabrizio Mammarella and Tronik Youth (SXDNS050), the label honcho himself.

Premiered here, Maestro Mammarella's take of "I Don't Care For You" brings the original to the peak-time realm. The peculiar distortions and bouncing gait of the title track gave him necessary room to add his very own signature sonority with fatter and heavier elements which brought even more clout to the very first release of the aspiring artist.

Boutique imprint Ritual Release announce their upcoming release "Making It Right", a collaborative effort between indie dance artist Woolfy and the producer Love Athletics. Scheduled for release on May 28, 2024, this record is an ambitious synthesis of classic new wave/goth anthems, channelling the spirits of New Order, Depeche Mode, and The Killers with modern sonics and Disco savant twist.

The original "Making It Right" sets the theme with dark, chuggy Disco vibes, Woolfy’s vocals echo the haunting tones of Peter Murphy and Ian Curtis with lyrics that hold the complexities of love and romanticism, drawing parallels between its cyclical nature and the constant rotation of the world. Ilya Santana steps up to the plate and takes things back a few years with his Italo sleaze inspired '84 mix. True to its name this rework brings the sequenced energy straight down the middle. Closing the record Boys' Shorts inject a more beat focussed sound, tighter and more dancefloor oriented whilst keeping the nostalgic essence of the original in their mix and dub.

This record highlights Woolfy's lyrical depth and Love Athletics’ driving production whilst exemplifying Ritual Release’s commitment to delivering music that pushes the genre onwards, a timeless piece that resonates with fans of classic and modern sounds alike.
