Blob Robber was created by using a combination of processed rubber bands, the Arturia Microfreak and Elektron Syntakt to create synth stabs and basslines. I wanted to create a track that was extremely physical in its sound characteristics, with lots of contrast and dynamics.

Blob Robber

So multi-genre as to be post-genre, Houston-based producer and DJ Mitigate turns up to Realist Radio in characteristically unpredictable form. Having released on Sanctuary, Novatone and most recently on homestead for some of the most burgeoning names in experimental electronic music, Assembly Line. Exemplifying a style adept in its ability to switch lanes in an instant and skilled across footwork, breaks, industrial techno, Mitigate’s recent tunes show a movement toward an increasingly confrontational sonic field and a producer patiently developing an encyclopaedic identity that never shies from the sentimentalism of voice whilst neither yielding up the will toward cacophony.

Mitigate’s mix is as wide-reaching as one would expect. DnB is about deconstructed in every way conceivable, through rattling splinters of noise and abrasive pulsations of dubstep, whilst elsewhere encompassing post-club and industrial techno. What awes one is the total control of atmosphere and dynamics, never merely trading drop for drop but often undercutting amassed atmosphere to take the listener into warbling breaks of drill and glitch, where a more conventional DJ would be content to settle for a continual yet disinteresting exchange of climaxes. There’s ultimately something historically alive to the way Mitigate mixes. An attention to how tracks fit together that wordlessly annotates the links between the antagonistic sonics of dubstep and the pugnacious disposition of post-club, that annotates the bodily grip of a witch-house-esque vocal aside the emotional heft of future garage, creating an innately complimentary blend of musics, a timeline without time. Is a pleasure, and not one to skip.
