The Fogwood is a project I formed on my own, drawing inspiration from all of the bands I've been a part of (Chimpunk Bitch, PR Stunt, Draggin'Anchors, La Vulgara, Exxxposre, Astro Bats). I loved all these bands, and worked with musicians much more musically literate than myself, but none had the outright heaviness I pined for. I wanted to trade in my punk rock power   chords for something more intricate and intresting.  I was always a riff factory, not a composer, and wanted to change this. I began recording guitar over keyboard drum beats on a cheap little one-speaker cassette radio, determined to create my own music.  The turning point was the purchase of a Tascam Portastudio 4-track cassette recorder, which is the source of the tracks listed here. "The Wolf Within" and "Jenny" use an Alesis drum machine from 1990.  The lack of a human drummer forced me away from making straight-forward metal, which in hindsight I am thankful for.  In the Fogwood project I don't consider a genre or intended audience, but try instead to focus on a handful of emotional elements. Growing up in front of MTV in the 80s had a huge impact on my initial love of music as well as this project.  I've learned a lot about composing and the interplay of instruments playing different parts simultainiously. Anthems of eeriness are my strong suit, and I'm excited to present this live on July 19th. I plan to use live performance as a tool to recruit more musicians to make this a full band. With a friend planning to join me on bass in the near future, more space will exist for samples and backing tracks as the Fog rolls into the future.
