Dekmantel Selectors 2021 was a much needed musical reunion. After the preceding period of stillness, the catharsis and pure joy of finally being together again has been overwhelming. In the words of Fafi Abdel Nour: "At first, I was quite anxious about everything, but having lots of familiar faces around made me feel at ease. It has been a long time since I felt comfortable enough to dance during my own set and it's a feeling that I don't want to let go anymore! Still buzzing from it."

Today we close another series filled with authentic, skilled, and talented artists. As we are still buzzin from last episodes' technical highlights, it is now time to welcome a new Rotterdam face shaped by the values of our beloved dance floor.

AHIL, Arthur van de Hil, started his musical journey in 2014 where he visited his first techno event in the mighty Maassilo. He soon started to realize that this genre contained much more feeling and cohesion compared to other forms of electronic music and so he began exploring his way in it. After several years of discovering, meeting like-minded people, learning, respecting, and understanding the essence of the dance floor, AHIL decided that he wanted to contribute in an artistic way to the scene he holds close to his heart.

AHIL started buying his first set up around 2.5 years ago and in the meantime, he released multiple podcasts, for which he draws his inspiration from the close people around him, his experiences visiting clubs, niche festivals, and some of his favorite artists. With this mix, AHIL strives to challenge the listener with solid and hypnotic soundscapes combined with his characteristic way of intense mixing where he leaves plenty of space for the listener to activate their imagination.

A mix like this engages the urge for the dance floor even more, so we strongly advise you to keep a close eye on our socials next week.

EMBODIMENT 036 - AHIL

Making other people enjoy themselves is what Sjoerd does best. He has been working at many different Rotterdam restaurants since the age of 15. From Michelin starred to burger flipping, he knows how to surprise you time and time again with new taste sensations.
In addition, Sjoerd has been around for a while in the Rotterdam clubscene, in clubs like BAR and Perron he could be found regularly. The constant flow of progressive DJs provided no lack of inspiration. 

In the meantime, he and his duo partner have made quite a few dance floors move under the name: Kookkamer.
Together with some friends, he also organises his own club nights under the name FOMO and he is part of the four-member DJ ensemble: FOMO Soundsystem. 

At the beginning of the pandemic, he started building a studio in his bedroom. When the restaurants and clubs closed down, this was the place where he could unleash his creativity. 
After some small releases under the name Kookkamer. It is now time for his first solo project: 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻

The EP consists of two tracks. It’s a combination of upbeat modern Italo and ominous Indie Dance.

𝗜 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:It's truly about the last 30 minutes of a party, the vibe is pumping, and the DJ is working his way to the grand finale. 
𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻: It’s a track about the excitement we used to feel after midnight, dancing and jumping around the club. Less worries, more fun.

The lack of getting together in the club was his biggest inspiration while producing the tracks. 
It has become a record where Sjoerd shows his versatility and, just like in the kitchen, knows how to surprise the guest or in this case the listener ;).
