After a string of underground singles, remixes and EPs, David ‘Eavesdrop’ Wood is finally coming to the fore to release his debut album, Pins & Needles on LOOP. 

“Here at LOOP we’ve always been drum ‘n’ bass lovers. However, not since the groundbreaking release of 50Hz’s Carbon or the debut album from The Upbeats have we been so excited & inspired to release more!” says Mikee Tucker of LOOP.

The confident debut offers up a heady mix of drum ‘n’ bass and showcases a range of known and up-and-coming vocalists and MCs.

Deeply musical, on the album Eavesdrop delves into areas and styles not always associated with the genre he’s operating in. He crosses spectrums with the glistening opener (and first single) ‘Clear Water (feat. Keshia)’, then flexes his musical muscles with the winding orchestral instrumental, ‘Violin Blossom’, which, features the enchanting violin of Christchurch’s Yoomia (Modern Violinist). 

“Our Reflections Feat. Soulyric” is a standout track with a fluid bassline and the following track ‘What Do They Know’ brims with atmosphere while Tali’s sultry vocals invite you into the irresistible groove. Of the experience, drum ‘n’ bass stalwart Tali says that: 'Working alongside Eavesdrop in the studio was a great experience… [He’s] one of New Zealand's most proficient producers in this genre'. 

Delving further into the album, a darker edge presents itself with crunchy tracks like ‘Moonlight over Wanaka’, which unapologetically sinks its teeth into classic liquid drum ‘n’ bass. ‘The Cat Burglar Feat. J Dubs’ spurs the album on to a fierce and dynamic direction with wonky hypnotic beats and J Dubs’ effortlessly smooth vocals.

The result of dedication, talent, hard graft and organic collaborations, Eavesdrop’s Pins & Needles is the perfect introduction to any music lover; proving his might as a talented and versatile up-and-coming artist.

"Intense soundscapes fade slowly into the mix, resonating around the listener’s eardrums as they brings a sorrow-like vibe forward. Only moments later, the listener can hear panned effects and a change in harmonics. De Form combines an enormous number of layers to form a continuously morphing audio ‘organism’. 

"Just a split-second later, a blend of beautiful choirs form and coincide with the rest of the elements present. Everything seems to come together - not knowing where it ends exactly seems to give this track so much power. With panning effects added and the high-frequencies becoming more intense by the second, De Form has absolutely outdone himself with this amazing remix. 

"As his remix ends, the listener is left with a single question: what would De Form have produced if he decided to implement drum patterns and percussion?!"
