After all the funny release quotes we write, we’ve never actually spoken about why and how we came up with the name Box of Cats. It’s a pretty random name for a record label, besides what have cats got to do with music anyway? Well, more than you think… Ever heard of the musical 'CATS', or Love Cats by The Cure, or ’50 Something Cats’ by deadmau5?

Anyway, the true story about cats came from us wanting to have a bunch of friends together with the same vibe. A bunch of cats in a box together. A Box of Cats. Yep, it’s literally that simple. Now with well over 100 artists on our roster, it’s become a pretty big box! We ran out of room, so we bought a bigger box and called it Box of Trax! Fully-fledged, heavy hitting tunes that deserve to be highlighted in a compilation all of their own.

You might recognise some familiar faces like ZOF, Max Kaluza & Osker Wilde and Kimba making their returns. We’ve also tracked down some fresh talent for good measure in the form of GetCosy, Ian Allen & Techneekz and some super fresh new talent by the name of Ricky Bobi!

No need for a ‘fragile’ sticker when boxing these ones up, so don’t be afraid to throw them around. In fact, we encourage it!

As you can imagine, we're sent cat memes all the time. The number of photos with cats in boxes is actually astounding, just as astounding as the amount of demos we receive. We receive so much great music that just doesn't fit into our release schedule, so every now and then we throw a bunch of them into a compilation for you guys. This gives us the chance to showcase many artists from around the world in one dynamite package.

Today we present to you the 6th installment of our Litterbox compilation series. We've tried to build an energy from the beginning, with a crescendo in the middle and an easy finish. There is everything you might expect from a Box of Cats compilation, and probably a bunch of stuff you wouldn’t...

Sirus Hood - Paris’ prime underground house DJ and producer - makes a welcome return to Solardo’s inimitable Sola label with a new EP featuring highly respected Berlin based producer Kevin Knapp. Titled Out Of Order, the EP demonstrates Sirus Hood’s deep-seated understanding of the dancefloor with groove laden beats and high-octane energy.

What lies underneath Sirus Hood’s music is soul and a supreme knowledge of the dancefloor, cultivated through years of exposure to Paris’ underground club scene. From the tender age of 10 Sirus began to immerse himself in mixtapes and before long began playing gigs in the Parisian warehouse scene, championing everything from New York house to 80s’ Chicago Hip house and the Balearic sounds of Ibiza. Releases on the likes of Dirtybird, CUFF, and Under No Illusion followed while DJ residences in Sankeys Ibiza, Eden Ibiza, Audio Rehab, Ministry Of Sound, and Showcase have cemented Sirus Hood as one of the scene’s most consistent and hardworking artists.

It’s no surprise then that the Parisian DJ regularly attracts internationally acclaimed artists to work with him. Featuring on the EP’s title track is San Francisco born, Berlin based Kevin Knapp. Kevin established himself as a pioneer back in 2012 when he unleashed his groove-heavy, soulful sound with Audiojack on Gruuv. More recently Kevin has released on the likes of Hot Creations and has initiated a touring career that’s seen him play all around the world at Sankeys, Paradise and Elrow in cities such as Barcelona, Beirut, Mumbai and Seoul. Frequent supporters include Jamie Jones, Pete Tong, Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers, among others.

Out Of Order sees these two producers pour their club-expertise for a versatile dancefloor package. While the title cut shows off an explosion of musical imagination, Brotha sees Sirus Hood go it alone with hypnotic 808 rhythms and an intoxicating sound design. Certain to do damage wherever it’s played, Out Of Order offers a glimpse of Sola’s outstanding plans for 2019 as well as Sirus Hood and Kevin Knapp’s exciting projection on the global stage.

Wummy is a brooding arrangement that takes us to the nucleus of strange; is this what the Big Bang might have sounded like? Rounding out the pack, FOOLiE teams up with Texan Wallace K for a fuel injected club weapon that will make your adrenal glands bubble.

Consummating this mind-bending collection is a pixelated eyegasm from Los Angeles based artist Nicholas Murphy, who repurposed a photo by Manuel Lopez, matching the emotive scramble in FOOLiE's compositions.

What is the Perfect Driver Tour Bus? 

We would like to be the first independent dance music record label to take our show on the road. Literally. With help from supporters, label-head Matthew Anthony will be customizing a Sprinter Van to pick up artists in one city to play shows in the next while remote operating the label in an ongoing Perfect Driver tour. See link to crowd-funding campaign below.

Our goal is to give Perfect Driver artists and fans a one of a kind experience. A #VanLife styled road trip where the DJ plays shows in big cities, small towns and everywhere in between, all while producing music in a mobile recording studio. Picture the Perfect Driver high-top Sprinter Van at a local art show or skate park with artists performing from the back. Or our #DJsAndCooking web-series broadcasting live from festivals. Imagine pit stops in National Parks while documenting artist & industry conversations on YouTube or Patreon for subscribers. Our plan includes playing quarterly shows in major markets.
