Following a limited 7” vinyl release of SunPalace edits in 2020, BBE Music finally delivers the full-length versions of Moodymann and Kenny Dope’s ‘Rude Movements’ remixes, alongside brand new interpretations by François K, Frankie Feliciano and OPOLOPO, plus a special edit by Phil Asher.

François Kevorkian needs no introduction to fans of House and electronic music. Featuring keys by Eric Kupper, his ‘SATS Dub’ and ‘TradMix’ versions of ‘Rude Movements’ are simply classic works, summoning House music’s golden era forward in time, to the here and now. Bonus spaced-out ‘Flerken Space Bubbles’ and beat-less ‘Atmosphere’ revisions are also included in the digital version: both invaluable tools for DJs. Ricanstruction label founder and long-time champion of the good groove, Frankie Feliciano delivers a slick and faithful update of ‘Rude Movements’, with a slight Latin soul twist. Swedish mix-king OPOLOPO turns in a typically live-sounding, funky and dancefloor-ready jam (ready whenever the dancefloor is, anyway) The full, extended version of Moodymann’s remix retains the original ‘jammed’ feel of Rude Movements, adding stellar flute, sax and piano solos to that hypnotic vibe. Kenny Dope’s Afro-Latin inspired ‘Dancefloor Powder’ version is joined this time by a rough’n’ready, street tough ‘O’Gutta’ mix; calling all b-boys and b-girls! For the expanded digital package, we are also including a special edit by our sorely missed brother Phil Asher, created for his own DJ sets and now available to all.

Made famous by David Mancuso at his New York Loft Parties, ‘Rude Movements’ was an obscure Brit-funk b-side recorded in the home studio of Mike Collins. The track’s unique sound, coupled with pristine sonics and production values caught the audiophile ears of Mancuso, and the rest is history. Soon the track found its way into the hands of Loft Party denizens Larry Levan, Nicky Siano, Frankie Knuckles and Danny Krivit and continues to influence House and electronic producers through to this day.

Devante Embers - Morning Gorg

Melbourne-based producer and DJ Jonny Faith returns to Tru Thoughts on the bruk banger filled ‘First Foot’ EP. But closing the EP, the longtime MIMS favourite gives a nod to his love of drum & bass and jungle with a Paradox-inspired Drumfunk Dub remix of his 2015 song “Slumber”, laced with irresistible organic drum breaks.

“Some of my earliest forays in music production were dabbling in broken beat and bruk, but this feels like my first proper broken beat release” Jonny explains. But clearly he hasn’t shaken the jungle bug, and we are thankful for that. 

“A great DJ and friend called Lorna Clarkson once told me that a music career is like a DJ set which your audience will follow you on along its twists and turns as it builds up and down in intensity and blends between styles. This release comes off the back of my ‘On Lock EP’, which was all jungle and well received. Given that, it seemed like a touch of jungle on there would smooth out the transition and bring some of those new followers (or dancers to flog the analogy) along for the ride. After trying out a few ideas, I then thought about connecting this to my very first Tru Thoughts release, which was a double single taken from my ‘Sundial’ LP including “Slumber”. I love a good call back and wanted to give new life to that old track of mine.”

The full EP will see release on Friday January 7th, exclusively on Beatport, ahead of a wide release on January 21st.

Whilst 2020 has seen nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt AKA Satin Jackets return to his roots, releasing an EP of equally chilled- and blissed-out instrumental cuts, fans of the vocal collaborations that marked the German producer's last album are well catered for with 'Think About It', a brand new single that nods towards a poppier direction and wouldn't sound out of place on last year's 'Solar Nights' LP.

Recorded earlier this year in the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, famous for having hosted the likes of David Bowie, Depeche Mode and Falco in the 70s and 80s, the storied building's atmosphere, an inspiration to songwriters and musicians for decades, quickly worked its magic on Tim.

"I was in Berlin for a few days to meet and work with songwriters from around the world, and really it's not hard to be motivated when you're in a place with a history like Hansa." He explains. "It's like it has this aura from all the great records that have been recorded there over the years, it left us in awe and was very inspiring. Anyway time to do some proper disco I thought and so that's what we did."

And "proper disco" is exactly what we've got here. A beat that will kick your feet into gear, a bass line to engage your hips, guitars, pianos and strings all coming together to deliver the kind of sun kissed melodies Satin Jackets fans know and love and then to top it all off a stunning vocal performance to ensure that much like the lyrics say this is one track won't be able to get out of your mind this summer.

Now teaming up with Mexican DJ sensation and Super Spicy Records boss Monsieur Van Pratt for their first collaboration, they have crafted a four-track EP of undeniably funky disco-house excursions, highlighting a shared passion for golden age disco, funk, and soul, showcasing their genuine appreciation of these influences.
