If you've been following Booms and Claps for a while, it should come as no surprise that we're big fans of the NYC/LA-based Anna Morgan/Bell Curve uptempo brainchild Worst Behavior Recs. The latest offering from the imprint comes in the form of an EP from Toronto's Stranjah entitled "Monk Fruit", and it's chalk-full of the top-notch production quality and high energy stompers that we've come to expect from one of our favorite Canadians. Stranjah is clearly no stranger (I'll see myself out) to working with vocalists, as the standout tunes on the EP are undoubtedly the vocal features from Baltimore's club queen TT the Artist and Manchester's finest Fox on "Major" and "Inya" respectively. We were especially excited to see the TT feature pop up, as she has had a HUGE year with a laundry list of big collaborations and single releases, the launch of her "Black Pop Art" painting/apparrel/home decor collection, as well as the premiere of her amazing full-length documentary film "Dark City: Beneath the Beat" highlighting the culture of Baltimore club music. She's an incredible vocalist, director, designer, and artist, and we're so excited every time we see her work intersect with the bass music we love.

As if that wasn't enough, the EP also features a remix from one of our OTHER favorite Canadians, the illustrious OAKK, which will be the subject of today's premiere. OAKK takes a stab at flipping the TT the Artist feature, "Major", and it's safe to say he succeeded. The infectious hook from TT, the booming 808s, the way the beat just hangs in the pocket with the vocal, and of course the "flute drop" combine forces to create a dance floor smasher. If there ends up being a festival season this next year, I can guarantee you'll hear this one all summer long. In the meantime, hopefully it'll just show up in a couple live streams!

The first music release on Space Yacht is finally here. The LA-based culture collective has become a pivotal figure in the US electronic scene over the past 5 years. With a knack for spotting developing talent, Space Yacht has positioned themselves at the forefront of the industry and are proud to present “Moving Forward” by CLB & Formula as their first release.

“When "Moving Forward" landed on our Tune Reactor show on Twitch (it's our demo review show and it's also a live reaction video), we were instantly blown away. Part of it was the hook that came from the track’s co-producer and lyricist, Formula. ‘No matter how hard you try, you try to stay alive. You keep on moving forward’ was spot on in terms of what we were feeling in 2020, yet timeless in that it describes something we all do every day, and have done since the beginning of time--survive. The introduction will have your hairs standing on end as S.P.Y’s signature reese bass comes tearing in underneath eerie plucks and Liane’s dynamic vocal range.

Russian-based, minimalistic beat smiths Bop x Subwave join forces with one of the most distinct voices in drum & bass on ‘The Shade’. Degs uses the delicately crafted canvas from Bop x Subwave to convey his eternally important message of continuing to spread love and kindness despite the racial injustices and discrimination he’s faced. A remarkable collaboration with an indispensable meaning.

Makoto and Urbandawn roll back to the 90s with ‘Magic Eyes’ featuring the vocals of MC Conrad, a leading figure within drum & bass and a true pioneer of MC culture. Expect a euphoric hands-in-the-air piano breakdown that sets the tone before Urbandawn’s grizzly bass work drives the track into full-throttle energy mode.

‘Broken Bones (feat. Ruth Royall)’ sees the debut collaboration of Whiney and Mitekiss. They offer their majestic take on drum & bass with spacious synth pads, sublime saxophone riffs and the soulful vocals of Ruth Royall, all meticulously blended together into a solemn liquid roller.
