Black Opps on PROX093 is an exercise in dark sound, drawing on war-influenced samples and opting for uncompromising drums and bass. Jericho EP is a triplet of tunes that further help define the essence of the Proximity sound.

The opening track, ‘TomaHawk’ has the sound of danger in a post-apocalyptic world. The initial protection provided by the cover of synths help introduce the main body of the track. This protection is soon cut back, unleashing a powerful skeleton uncompromising in its rawness. Both ethereal and grand, the title track, ‘Jericho’, creates an atmosphere similar to the tense moments before a battle. This peels away to reveal a gritty underside, coloured with images of a dark subterranean dance. Thirdly, ‘Brah-Mos’ is an unmistakable darkside roller, smooth and ready for those who want to move.

The Belgian outfit has always been drawn to the deeper and darker side of Drum & Bass and this latest single is no different. 'The Sewers' is a minimalistic horror driven, half step nodder that kicks your gut, while 'Backlash's bassline is pounding through the rolling breaks like a car drive at 200 km/h. Berlin based duo Survey are regular contributors to the Dispatch back catalogue, having featured on collaborative releases with Kolectiv, Tephra & Arkoze, M-zine & Scepticz and releasing two of their own EPs on Dispatch Limited, 2017s Sidewalks EP and 2018s Basic Motion EP.

DIS143 sees their solo Dispatch Recordings EP debut for the Life Cycle EP – fives tracks of their own signature sound, finely detailed, textural experimentation with rolling drums and bass. Be it the rugged dancefloor energy of “Far Gone”, or the nostalgic, explorative title track “Life Cycle”

“Sensory”, a collaboration with Phase, originally started life as a Phase remix of another Survey tune, they liked the original elements so much they stripped out the remix stems and worked it into the heavyweight beast you find on this EP.

Melodrama starts things off with the raucous tune “Sector 6.” Utilizing an intense drum roll that builds the tension to a fever pitch, it drops on you with the full force of the deepest sub you’ve ever heard.
