Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, State of Mind are a duo of Stu Maxwell and Patrick Hawkins. Beginning their careers in 2005, SOM have become notoriously prolific Drum & Bass producers with releases on a broad spectrum of labels throughout the DnB scene. Material can be found on the shelves via CIA Recordings, Teebee’s Subtitles Records, Friction’s Shogun Audio, Viper Recordings, Doc Scott’s 31 Records, Concord Dawn’s Uprising, Bad Company, BSE & Obsessions, Project 51, Samurai and more. 

Not happy being mere producers and DJs, SOM Music was launched in 2009 and is now regarded as a premier niche label in its own right. SOM Music is home to artists like Nymfo, Black Sun Empire, Spinline, Jade, Mindscape, Dose, Borderline, Trei, Neonlight & Incognito to name a few.

This latest 1 More Mix comes courtesy of the bombarding sounds of Transforma.

With releases already on the likes of Blackout, Sinful Maze, Korsakov and Neuroheadz, you could say that Transforma is already a household name in drum & bass. But having already been in the production game for a decade, are we hearing a transformation in his sound?

This 100% productions mix packs a different kind of punch, as we hear sounds inspired by cinematic legend Hans Zimmer, future sounding and techy vibes inspired by the likes of IMANU and Buunshin, all polished off with powerful neuro breaks.

Having spent some down time back in his homeland of Australia in 2023, it was still a monstrous year in terms of production as he completed fifty projects. All while finishing an EP for his techno alias, Arkana.

Forbidden Society has gone from being both a DJ and producer, to manufacturing a platform for his brand which stretches further than his base of Czech Republic. 

Forbidden Society has never bowed down to commercial pressure and as a result, has amassed a formidable reputation and a fan base to match. His output through his self-titled imprint and clothing line has highlighted this and his sonic divesity. 
The prime example being his debut self-released LP ‘Fog Walk’. Moving itself away from the hardcore vigor of his usual work, it covered twelve brand new editions to his already intimidating catalogue of work. The ‘Dead Box’ EP followed in quick succession, also revealed on Forbidden Society and standing as another monumental part of 2019. 
Despite being firmly rooted within drum & bass, these two bodies of work spanned his inspirations across electro, techno and punk music, something which were mirrored through his ‘Subworld’ EP on Noisia’s Vision Recordings – also releasing there again with his Audio collaboration ‘Iris’.

In more recent times, he featured as part of Killbox’s album on RAM Records with ‘Transistor’. Also returning to Vision with solo EP ‘Subworld, as well as taking part in their ‘Mission Compilation, his reworks for its label heads Noisia on ‘Exodus’ and ‘Moving For You’ (ft. I Am Legion) built on his longstanding relationship with the trio. This has only helped to thrust him even further into the spotlight. 

As well as his self-released ‘Liminal Point’ and ‘No Return’ LPs, he’s continued to set a standard, whilst exploring the likes of garage, techno and half time too. From Paris to Amsterdam, through to Columbia and Japan, Forbidden Society has brought his explosive presence to a global stage too. Standing as the first Czech producer to be booked for the legendary Pirate Station in Russia, he’s still breaking the paradigms within his creative process and in doing so, has engineered a space which has ensured both his longevity and international success.
