Baba Commandant and the Mandingo Band are a contemporary group from Burkina Faso. Coming from Bobo-Dioulasso, the group is steeped in the Mandingue musical traditions of their ancestral legacy. The enigmatic lead singer Baba Commandant (Mamadou Sanou) is an original and eccentric character who is well respected in the Burkinabé musical community. A sort of punk Faso Dan Fani activist for traditional Mandingo music, Baba continues to redefine the boundaries between traditional and modern. In 1981, he joined the Koule Dafourou troupe as a dancer. Later, he embarked on his current musical direction as a singer, first in Dounia and then in the Afromandingo Band. His current band -- when he's not playing with the now-famous Burkinabé musician Victor Démé -- is the Mandingo Band. At present, he is a practitioner of the Afrobeat style, drawing inspiration from the golden era of Nigerian music. Fela Kuti/Africa 70 and King Sunny Adé are big influences, as is the legendary Malian growler Moussa Doumbia. Baba Commandant plays the ngoni, the instrument of the Donso (the traditional hunters in this region of Burkina Faso and Mali). His audience comprises multiple generations and strata of Burkinabé society; he accordingly adapts his repertoire to his surroundings, which range from cabaret Sundays in Bobo-Dioulasso to the sound systems of Ouagadougou. Baba Commandant and the Mandingo Band are a formidable force steeped in Ouagadougou's DIY underground musical culture. Juguya is their sound. Limited edition LP housed in a Stoughton tip-on sleeve.

Abstand is a duo project by Martin Brugger and Simon Popp, both members of the Munich-based jazz group Fazer. On their debut 12" Opek they provide off-kilter polyrhythmic percussion psychedelia, layering live and unedited drum tracks blended with sparse electronics that add a subtle Middle Eastern tint. 
On the B side we're treated with a remix by Stefan Schwander aka Harmonious Thelonious. The Salon des Amateurs denizen serves us a pulsating and more club-leaning take showing why he can always be trusted with turning live percussion into bold, hypnotic jams for the perceptive clubgoer. 
The Munich-Duesseldorf axis has once again been proven fertile and we will likely hear more coming out of that connection.

Known for his retro-futuristic noisy edginess as heard on the ‚Small Disasters‘ and ‚Playing In The Night‘ EPs, TOM And His Computer is set to release his debut album in October on Trentemøller’s label In My Room. 

The album's title track and first single 'Future Ruins' drops in early May and features Roxy Jules on vocals. 

'Future Ruins' is a postapocalyptic song cumulating in a noisy guitar-explosion, contrasted by Roxy Jules bitter-sweet vocals, while 'The Darkness Within' on the B-side plays with interesting synthie and guitar layers. 

Expect blazing post-punk with intermittent screaming synths, noisy guitar layers - thrilling stuff. 

Both songs have been co-produced and mixed by Trentemøller, 'Future Ruins' will be accompanied by a fascinating video by Martin Garde Abildgaard. “The story in Future Ruins can be experienced in many different ways. It can be about the relationship between to souls, but also about the entire climate situation where Mankind tries to make Mother Earth survive. If we don’t think properly and act in life, things  can go terrible wrong”, says the videos writer and director Martin Garde Abildgaard. 

The video has been shot over three days in an abandoned house in the deep woods of Denmark. Future Ruins is the second collaboration between director Martin Garde Abildgaard and TOM And His Computer. First one was the music video Organ which was official selected for more than 30 international film festivals and won the main price at 10 of them. The man in the video is actor Cyron Melville known as the character “A” in Lars Von Triers feature film Nymphomaniac. The woman in the video is actress Sonia Suhl known as the lead role in the Cannes Film Festival darling When Animals Dream.
