The Assignment: Record a track at precisely 60 BPM with the intention someone will subsequently rework it.

Step 1: You’re going to record a simple track at 60 BPM in 4/4 that will be reworked subsequently by other musicians, including potentially being combined with other tracks. Think about how you want to structure something with that intention.

Step 2: Record a 60 BPM track in 4/4 based on the thinking that resulted from Step 1.

Note: This is the first part of a two-part project. You don’t need to participate in both. In the Junto, all projects are intended to be doable as standalones. However, there often are sequences. The intended second project of this project, next week, will build on this one, so please consider making your track downloadable and available for reworking/remixing.

This week's assignment left me somewhat conflicted. 

I wanted to leave enough room for Disquiet Junto members to take parts of the track and add their ideas. On the other hand, it should sound like a track and not like an assembly of 4-bar loops. I hope I left enough space for you to add. If not, there's always the possibility to EQ the s*** out of it. 

Second, 60 BPM feels like 120 BPM when you add 16th hi-hats to it... but I couldn't resist doing it.

For this, I continued down the road paved by my 0605 & 0606 submissions, these being extensions of what I did for 0530 and the subsequent album of its evolutionary brothers and sisters.

Please My Parching Tongue (disquiet0609)

I recently got my hands on the Terra from Soma and, well, I haven't been able to keep my hands off of it. So I decided to use it for this challenge employing the arp mode with the timing regulated by an external clock. There are three, roughly 1 minute segments to this track. The first runs the Terra through an Eno style airport looper, with 4 intersecting loops. The second does the same, with a little help from the granular mode on the Cosmos. The third Terra arp is just run through the Cosmos delay mode. The first track uses an arpeggio with about 5 notes, the second about 3 and the last only 1, with the "sun" knob on the Terra creating some tonal variation. Hopefully at least some of this will be useable!

Piano sample from another project

Small guitar ambient guitar sample using Blooper as a fast delay with the glitch effect. Created tones using sustainer pickup and fading in to the delay line.

Kept it minimal to allow for space if other instruments come.

Added reverb kick on Syntakt

Added hi hat on 1, 3, 4 - just felt better

Added notes on Norns Awake application into Mood2 reverb. Captured small glitchy samples.

Lots of repeating ideas so I grabbed a few passes of the glitch to leave in as a choice.

Added a lot of gain in post processing. Need to look at my gain staging!

This was my contribution for the collaborative Disquiet Junto Project 0609: Speed Limit Pt 1
Here’s a copy of my post on the Disquiet Junto 0609 discussion thread:

Created this quickie 32 step repeating arpeggio sequence for part one of this project. There's subtle random variation to arp direction and note length throughout. Used Max for Live Probability Arp in Ableton Live, with Drift synth as the voice. In addition, used SoundGhost Drift plugin (a name coincidence) for analog tape effects. 

This is at 60 BPM but could also be 120 BPM because of the arp rate. Key is Bm. Have fun.

Me and My Arpeggio [disquiet0609]

After my first few tries with Ableton Note ended in 60 BPM Venetian Snares territory, I decided to keep my submission simple and easy to add to. So it is just a simple chord progression made with Microfreak and the fantastic acrostic. I resisted adding layers or effects to it.
