He has been writing songs for more than half his life; he started at 12, recording his first album, Water, on cassette, at 13. When he was 17, Oberst and his band Bright Eyes released A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995–1997. The album turned him into a sort of new Dylan prodigy, a folk-rock troubadour from a frigid state who spoke for a generation of intense, sensitive, liberal twentysomethings. “Thank God that&rsquo;s over, right?” says Oberst with a grin. “I went right from wunderkind to washed up. Old. Been around too long. That&rsquo;s just the way I feel. That&rsquo;s my internal dialogue.”  Oberst is sitting in the East Village apartment of a friend, his narrow shoulders hunched against the chill. With his anime eyes and curtain of bangs, he looks like a particularly delicate child—not the grizzled vet of his imagination. But one can understand why Oberst might feel conflicted about his public persona, which has taken some bashing. No less than Jonathan Franzen name-checks him for quick symbolism in the novel Freedom, in which Oberst headlines a concert for an environmental cause, standing in for the faux na&#239;vet&#233;, innocence, and extreme political correctness of one character.  It&rsquo;s just another of the many things people have written about Oberst that he hasn&rsquo;t read. He gave up paying attention to press about himself, when the criticism—that he was too maudlin, too achingly liberal, too much the guy who plays guitar and cries at parties to impress the girls—became painful. “Anyone who says they aren&rsquo;t hurt by that stuff is not telling the truth,” says Oberst, who found some consolation in a friend&rsquo;s coffee-table book—a compendium of essays and reviews that ran in the music magazine Melody Maker. “I was reading through it, and somebody was just slamming [early records by] Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell—all these people who are, in my mind, untouchable. They&rsquo;re calling their music phony and terrible and derivative. It was so encouraging because it made me realize these people don&rsquo;t know what they&rsquo;re talking about at all.” Last night, Oberst happened to watch the documentary When You&rsquo;re Strange, about the Doors. “Given how incredibly inaccurate everything I&rsquo;ve read about myself usually is, I had to wonder, Is any of this real?”  Oberst is about to release The People&rsquo;s Key, the first Bright Eyes album since 2007&rsquo;s Cassadaga, a swirling operatic opus that was (mostly) critically admired for being as opulent and baroque as his early work was spare and delicate. Oberst followed that with two laid-back, uncharacteristically witty alt-country solo albums with the Mystic Valley Band, as well as an expansive rock record with supergroup Monsters of Folk (Jim James of My Morning Jacket, M. Ward, and Bright Eyes&rsquo; producer-instrumentalist Mike Mogis). The People&rsquo;s Key was recorded back home, in Omaha, on the Saddle Creek label, which Oberst founded with his older brother Justin in 1993. “The most difficult and rewarding thing in this business is longevity,” he says. “So far, I&rsquo;ve made it through, but I&rsquo;ve been lucky. What&rsquo;s happening in the music industry is exactly what&rsquo;s happening in America in general—the shrinking of the middle. Soon there will only be MySpace bands and, like, Jay-Z.”  The new album is rich with slick, glitzy keyboards courtesy of Nate Walcott, the third member of Bright Eyes. “To me, this is not an eighties record, but that&rsquo;s definitely the palette of sounds we&rsquo;re drawing from,” says Oberst, who worked with the band to untangle and simplify their sound. “If there&rsquo;s a criticism of Cassadaga that I agreed with, it&rsquo;s that we left things in the oven too long, that songs were overstuffed, with too many ideas competing for space.” Clarity has forever been a challenge. “The one recurring theme in my writing, and in my life in general, is confusion,” he says. “The fact that anytime you think you really know something, you&rsquo;re going to find out you&rsquo;re wrong—that is the rule. The moments where you think you have something figured out, those are the exceptions.”  Fans will recognize another familiar thread in The People&rsquo;s Key, that of living in a world that can at times be horrifying. Back in 2003, Oberst battled Clear Channel and the corporatization of music; he later publicly supported PETA, performed at a 2008 rally for presidential candidate Barack Obama, and, last year, boycotted Arizona for its anti-immigration bill. His commitment to action remains, tempered perhaps with a certain world-weariness. “Once you realize that everyone is in the same boat, that everyone is just as insecure and childlike as everyone else, that all these jokers in D.C. ruining our world are just greedy kids grabbing for marbles—I think that realization means you&rsquo;re an adult,” says Oberst, who can come across as both cynical and a little na&#239;ve in his cynicism. “I will say there are evil people in this world. And one of the themes of the new record is standing up and fighting against that. I&rsquo;d like to think that I will be able to discover a reality apart from this one, you know? Because it seems a little too bleak. I guess that&rsquo;s wishful thinking.” </div>

No one noticed when a songwriting phenomenon named Missy Eliot appeared in the industry as one forth of the R & B group of Jodeci going by the name of “Sista”.  Yet when the world got a taste of what she really had to offer we were all hooked.  One gets the same feeling upon hearing Keisha Starr for the first time.  Her sultry vocals are catchy and pleasant to hear.

Born as Keisha Antonette Wizzart, this college student grew up in a house full of music.  With her West Indian heritage, she watched attentively as her father wrote songs and played the piano and mother sang with other close family members to form the first reggae collective in Baltimore called the “Determination Band.”  Keisha Starr traveled with the family band since the age of four, modeling their devotion to music and appreciation for distinctive melodies.

By the tender age of ten Keisha Starr wrote the first song of what has become a prolific list of impressive materials.  Penning lyrics, with verses such as:  “If I could turn back the hands of time baby you know I would/I would take back all the things I said only if I could/Because time has passed but the feeling have not/ Come back home and give love another shot.”  Keisha Starr seemed to have possessed a maturity beyond her years in understanding the effectiveness of the simple sentiment of love.  

Realizing that she had both the gift of singing as well as writing, Keisha Starr used that ability throughout her adolescent years to propel her as the author and star of several school plays and talent shows; by grade seven she was a published author;  wining numerous writing contests.  Unable to avoid the writing bug, Keisha continues to write songs for other artists.  she has come to a crossroad that most songwriters eventually face; “Will the world accept me as just a songwriter, or should I deliver these songs from my heart with my vocals the way that they were originally conceived?”  Giving a listen to a sampler of her debut album, “True Confessions,” the public will be glad that she chose the latter.  

After releasing True Confessions, Keisha’s edgy mixed with poetic style of songwriting swept through her hometown.  She then began to write music not only for herself but for other local artists.  Keisha Starr’s talent has since caught the eyes of major record executives from Island Def Jam and Universal Records who personally contacted Ms. Starr to purchase songs.  

Currently, Keisha Starr is ghostwriting for both local and major recording artists.  She also writes monthly fashion articles/blogs for various online magazine publications such as Iconography the Magazine and Ezo Magazine. When asked, "What’s the secret to successfully writing a song or book,"  Keisha Starr replies “Write what you feel and not what you think others want to hear or read.  If it comes from your heart, it can’t go wrong.”  You can honestly hear in each and every song or chapter in her books that she’s truly penning from her soul.  Keisha Starr plans to take the music and literature industry by storm, and she’s coming strong so look out!

Beautiful, smart, and nicer than you think

Observer of humanity, words split though the healing wizardry of
audio waves in a Clockwise hi-jacking motion but chilled like a snail.

                Freshie's birth name is Nikia Squire, She was born in Columbia, South Carolina on December 5th, 1993. The start of her career was in 2006, a very depressing time for her. Unable to cope with emotions, she began writing down everything. First writing poems, and eventually putting her words to a beat. The purpose of writing was to express how she felt, it was never for fame or attention. She began recording with the program Audacity with a $9.99 headset mic from Wal-Mart. Promoting on MySpace, friends were fond of her potential. Some people loved her, some hated her, but it didn't matter at the time because she made music to vent, not to please other people. Over the years, she became more aware of recording software and taught herself how to become a better writer. 
                 In 2009 an online radio station was impressed with her potential and asked if they could play songs on their show. After the first couple of conversations, things changed. Tasha was the person that reached out to her from the show, and she turned into advisor. Outside of doing school talent shows, Tasha wanted to promote her music and get her shows. Which eventually landed Freshie in Florence, SC for her first show at a Black Expo event.
                Still self-promoting herself on MySpace, a guy named Mr. Drake got in contact with her demanding her attention and desiring her talent. They talked on and off, and Mr. Drake touched based with her parents and immediately wanted to make moves with her. He wanted to introduce himself to her father and began to get things started. The Indie Label he created was called “Metrolina Ent”…
                Throughout 2010, Mr. Drake helped Freshie develop into a more versatile artist. Unfortunately, managing her didn't work out. Freshie stayed independent, and enhances her skills. Using Reverbnation, Soundcloud, etc, she became a very well-known lyricist. In May of 2011, she won $150 (2nd Place Cash Prize) at a Talent Show held at the Colonial Life Arena in Downtown, Columbia… which later led into a performance on June 3rd, a graduation bash held at “The Coop" hosted by DJ Frosty and High Society Inc. Performances were just rolling back to back to back, and she was loving the attention from her fans and supporters.
                Going without a manager for over 5 years, in the 2nd week of June, 2011, she was ranked 165 in the SC Hip-Hop Charts (according to www.reverbnation.com) to 48, in less than a week. She began promoting on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Soundcloud, basically any place she could get anybody’s attention, and her hard work has definitely paid off.
                By the time she graduated from Ridge View High School in 2012, she managed to get herself 4 professional photoshoots, make 3 of her own music videos, and have over 15 performances; one was opening for Grand Hustle at a Car & Bike show in Georgia. She had over 100,000 views on YouTube and over 500 subscribers. Having accepted a basketball scholarship to Queens University of Charlotte, she currently resides in Charlotte where she continues to express her emotions through music.
