Moons Summer Party Mix!

Sydney’s Nick van Tiel is behind the tiller for Lost Sunday Sessions #015.

A key player behind the scenes of Lost Sundays every week, Nick’s trusted hand has seen him traverse dance floors from Bondi to Brooklyn and everywhere in between. Over the course of sixty minutes, NVT covers the likes of DJ Tennis, Kink, Joy Orbinson, Mall Grab, Baltra and more. 

In Nick’s own words:

“This mix opens with a new one from Barcelona’s Lis Sarroca, who I’ve just come across recently through a few of her excellent mixes for Rinse FM. She’s released on Hot Haus, Shall Note Fade and apparently launching her own label very soon. One to watch!  

A track that really had me jumping around while recording was the Breach remix of Maya Jane Coles’ ‘Everything’ which came out midway through 2013, when I was living / DJing in New York and throwing a bunch of warehouse parties in Bushwick. I love the building energy of this track and remember it going off at Output (RIP) back in the day.

The tune I’m most excited to play at Lost Sundays is Joy Orbison’s BRKLN CLLN, released on his own ‘Doldrums’ imprint - which has been in my record box since 2009. I love this track (and the B side) but rarely get the chance to play it. The crowd at Lost Sundays is well up for this faster breakbeat / UK bass kind of stuff and I know this will sound insane on the D&B soundsystem at ivy.

Finally, I’ve featured Mall Grab’s ‘Spirit Wave’ toward the end of the mix – released on Jordan’s own ‘Looking For Trouble’ imprint. Although based in London Mall Grab is one of my favourite Australian artists. This track is a prime example of the kind of energetic rave-tinged bangers that he and his label, Steel City Dance Discs, have become known for.” - @nick-van-tiel

Brisbane/Meanjin-based Jad & The steps up for Lost Sundays Sessions #019.

Between keeping busy making music and chasing waves, Jad runs his own record label, @beatsofnonationradio and co-hosts a monthly radio show on @refugeworldwide. With releases on labels such as Toy Tonics, Rhythm Section, Shall Not Fade and HAŴS, he’s built up an impressive portfolio of playful and experimental dubs.

Riding the wake of his latest release ‘Press Tha Button’ EP (out via Beats of No Nation), Jad & The mixes our latest Lost Sundays Session. In his own words:

“The first track in the mix, ‘Development’ is by former Meanjin, now Naarm-based, DJ Relax. Very talented, mostly unknown, and underrated. I first released one of his tunes via my Beats Of No Nation label (which I run with my friend, Dom). More recently, I’ve signed another track of his for my other (new!) label ’Speed Dial’ - coming soon!

As far as recent discoveries, listen out for ‘Closer to a Way’ by New Air Pigments. I don’t really know too much about the producer, all I know is that their self-titled EP released in 2021 via Ritual Acquaintance is 10/10. If the music is good, the music is good.

If there’s one track that gets me excited it’s ‘Planet Rhythm X’ by Tunisian producer, HearThuG. The whole EP is crazzzy, and he as a producer is very underrated. Quirky as hell, exactly how I like it.

I couldn’t tell you which track I’m most excited to play at Lost Sundays, as to be honest I don't really plan my sets (you know, just in case the vibe is more chill or if the crowd is down to party). I'm looking forward to it though!” - @jad-lee
