Need For Mirrors - Smudge (Drum&BassArena Winter Selection 2013 Exclusive)

The Story:
We've worked on this track during summer 2013 and thought, a release in early 2014 would fit perfectly to our schedule. But apparently, Tube&Berger were faster with the same idea: to use the theme of Strafe's 'Set It Off' Track from 1984.

The Desicion:
Even though we took a rather different approach then mighty Tube&Berger did - we thought it would be quite lame to release it too now. Especially after their version made it on No.1 on Beatport. 
We decided to include our version in our OFF Recordings Podcast to see if people liked it anyway - and after all the great feedback, we decided to give it away for free to our fans - we hope you'll enjoy it!

At the end of every year most labels and publications look back and reflect on what has come before, re-packaging old tracks together or making top ten lists. IÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢m always trying to find some big new records at the end of the year so I can go play something fresh, so IÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢d like to present the DIRTYBRD New Years Special. 

Here are seven new bangers for your holiday DJ sets. The tracks are all new & most of them are by new talents on the label. Fresh faces include veteran German producer David Keno, an all new act called Jaded, Sirus Hood from Paris, My Cat Snoop, Mikey V, Wood Holly & Sage Armstrong.  Of course we have a few guys who have been on the label before, Ardalan, Genghis Clan, and Nick Olivetti.

Returning to Four40 Records to bring yet another banger, this time teaming up with fellow Brummies and Grime Mc’s: Trilla Jermaine Trilloski & Screama to deliver the Bass driven banger “We Make It Work!”. Designed to stress any venues system, this tune will have any crowd asking for ‘wheel ups’ while they skank with their dirtiest bass faces.

The new single includes the exclusive extended and instrumental versions, alongside four powerful remixes from Toni Moretti; DJ Cable, Filthy Vicars and EL-B.

Toni Moretti turns ‘We Make It Work!’ on its head, delivering an 808 driven remix. Striping back the instrumentation and adding his signature to create a dark remix.

DMC Champion, DJ Cable reworks the song to bring an eerie Trap remix, showing that Birmingham is ‘hood’.

Filthy Vicars require anyone that encounters their remix to put on their two stepping shoes and get low to their jump up refix with El-B extending the garage vibes and dropping the remix instrumental as well.

With the single set for release on 17th December 2012, this song has already started gaining recognition from some of the scenes biggest artists and dj’s: ScratchaDVA (Rinse FM/DVA Music) , Marco Del Horno (Bullet Train), Last Japan (Sony MCA), Mele (Grizzly) and Decibel to name a few.

Following the success of their summertime party anthem 'Let's Go' with Jamie George, I Killed Kenny drop their second release on Four40 Records in the form of Crux EP.

At the forefront of the release and sharing the same name is 'Crux' a hard-hitting grime collaboration with hype Midlands' MC Slick Don. Consisting of sharp, snappy drums and a heavy electric bass-line, Crux was born to tear up dance-floors. The Original Mix sees Slick Don lace the track with slick lyrics and bubbly flow adding to the raw energy of the beat. The instrumental is also available on the EP separately.

Next we have 'HS1' a fast paced Trap-style track bound to cause havoc. 'HS1' will be fire in the clubs, sounding almost like a melodic siren in its approach, the gangsta-style synth leads are the main focal point of the beat. Complimenting that we have great percussion work - rolling hi-hats, stiff claps and heavy toms working so well together helping to strengthen the high octane energy in 'HS1'. IKK have made a killer with this track, its style and attitude is one that is bound to receive acclaim in the clubs.

Last but by no means least we have 'Crossover' - again this isn't a song that can be pinpointed in its musical style. Seemingly taking influences from a spectre of genres, it doesn't matter how you look at it 'Crossover' is a party riddim. IKK create yet another tantalizing and up-lifting drum line, blending it brilliantly with deep bass stabs and rhythmic metallic chimes to create a funky, bass-heavy beat guaranteed to crank the temperature in any dance.

Crux EP is a great showcase of the productive talents of the I Killed Kenny duo and also a great reflection of their creative energy which is without a doubt bound to long influence the Dance music scene
