André Hommen and Gerd Janson have remixed Tensnake’s ‘The Walk / Keep On Talking'. Forthcoming on Tensnake’s own label True Romance, TREP010 'The Walk / Keep on Talking' Remixes will be available on both digital and vinyl from the 14th December. It's arguably the label's biggest remix package since Duke Dumont and Ewan Pearson remixed 'Love Sublime'. 

The Pete Tong approved André Hommen - also the creative producer and label manager of Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity imprint - has remixed ‘The Walk’ on the A-side. A deep, minimalistic beat drives his remix and a smart breakdown introduces the melody from Tensnake’s original, pushing all the original elements to higher heights. 

'Running Back' label boss Gerd Janson’s ‘Keep On Talking’ RAW mix is set against powerful drums and acid-tinged synths, with a piano-led breakdown echoing the original melody. The Panorama Bar resident and celebrated producer delivers a unique cut formed of several retro influences to provide a cool new twist on Tensnake’s upbeat original. The vinyl release also include’s Gerd’s beats-only version in the ‘Gerd Janson RAW beats mix”.

"Young artist Charlotte de Witte continues to bolster a credible catalogue of tough, no-nonsense Techno with the introduction of her second solo EP for Tiga’s extolled Turbo Recordings. 

With a recent nod from Alan Fitzpatrick who included her Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme) in his recent Fabric mix she is an artist with a penchant for dark and moody atmospherics. Now - after her inclusion in the recent 12-track VA on Suara - the previously gold-selling Ghentian producer follows up her collaboration with Oscar & The Wolf and her first solo EP on London’s Bad Life with Sehnsucht: a bold four-track record packed with burly kick drums, steely synth tones and hypnotic vocal sampling primed for discerning big-room crowds. Also included in the package is a ruthless remix from Suara boss Coyu.

The title track is an apocalyptic march propelled by a purposeful kick and an unapologetic clap that keeps the pressure up throughout before ‘My Feeling’ lays a circling, hypnotic vocal over scuttling claps and luminous, flashing hi hats. 

Coyu then steps in with his take on ‘My Feeling’, pushing it into overdrive and marrying brash, white-noise snare drums with shuddering hats and vocal snippets. 

‘Enough’ then sets sharp drums knocking against cold and capacious textures before a disquieting and arresting vocal suffuses the track to stunning effect. ‘Den Ganzen Abend’ then brings the record to a sinister close as a pellucid German vocal sample is set creeping over an ineffably weighty low-end sitting it comfortably on the floor of Berghain and capping off another coup for a consistently reliable label and an artist firmly on her ascent."

"Sehnsucht describes a deep emotional state and is translated as 'longing', 'pining', 'yearning', or 'craving' or in a wider sense a type of 'intensely missing'. Charlotte de Witte, without doubt one of Belgium's fastest rising talents in the techno circuit, and known from two strong EP's on Tiga's Turbo label, makes her debut on OFF.

The EP starts off with "Trip", aptly name due to its cinematic sounddesign and arrangement. Charlotte's trademark use of vocals ooze character, and haunting synths complemented by a laidback but steady drum-foundation are the ingredients of this track.

Sweden's Techno-legend Cari Lekebusch delivers the first remix, a functional and linear interpretation, which is sure to be heard on festval dancefloors during the late summer.

TWR72 of Amsterdam, themselves very much what you would call a "current breakthrough act", are responsible for remix number two, a contemporary interpretation based on syncopated rhythms.

The EP is completed with "Repeat", a reduced drum-tool built around a repetitive vocal hook.

Altogether a strong statement of a promising young artist and another proof of the ongoing evolution of OFF Recordings.

“This album is about the cold dark grey Berlin winter” – Marc Houle.

A simple statement, sure – but anyone who experienced Berlin during the winter of 2009 / 2010 will know exactly where Marc is coming from. Each day and night the temperature remained below freezing, the sky grey from an unsettling lack of sun. Ice covered streets from Kreuzberg to Prenzlauer Berg. The conditions did, however, grant Marc the opportunity to spend all of his waking hours in the studio, absorbing the warm welcoming heat generated from his analogue synths. The experimentation during this winter period was the catalyst for Marc’s latest long-player for Minus – quite possibly his most accomplished and personal release to date.

Drift is an album of tracks inspired by the prolonged Berlin winter, and the depression, which it so often causes – from the chill of the coldest nights felt on tracks such as Inside and The Next, through to songs that encompass the frustrations of gray skies such as Seeing In The Dark. Marc has created a season of emotions and in doing so put forth his own personal frustrations towards what is considered “techno” in its most basic form. Locking himself away during a winter season to fully embrace his own idealism has resulted in an album on which his rebellious nature and desire for a more experimental musical mentality has cast him further from the standard practice of our techno underworld. His grievances are at their most clear on the title track, which is an intense, and ultimately angry, techno belter produced as the winter season caused feelings less of “beauty” and more of suffocation.

Drift is not without moments in which the sunlight peeks through the layers of heavy clouds, however. Tracks such as Sweet and Hitcher Man provide the audible interpretation of a person dreaming of warmer climates. The not so forgotten idea of being elsewhere, with the experience of finally seeing the snow fade away and the clouds drift towards springtime skies. By the time the album reaches its finale, with the track Hammering, it’s clear that Marc’s winter blues have receded, as the few remaining patches of ice melt into puddles of past musical memories. While summer has not yet arrived, the sun is starting to make its presence felt, warming the city streets once more.

A mainstay of the Minus camp, Marc Houle has been known to push the boundaries with his output for the label, always adding tweaks and twists from analogue synths, unexpected, obscure sounds, and an onslaught of vocals and playfulness. He is a producer clearly not satisfied with following the guidelines set by other techno practitioners. His take on electronic music is one in its own, a personal sound that draws upon his early influences from industrial, retro and Detroit, along with a modern vision of path-finding techno. His ability to play with ideas and equally provide functionality for the floor sets Marc Houle apart. And his latest venture for the label, although inspired by the coldest moments of the year, is undoubtedly hot as fire.

Sidney Charles - Jack Endlessly

Guy Andrews is a fascinating London-based producer and DJ with a surprisingly wide range of sonic textures and vibes. He mostly releases ambient, post rock mood heavy pieces which are as brooding as they are thoughtful. His production has landed him on a load of great label rosters including Houndstooth, Hemlock, Erased Tapes, Hotflush and Mesh. He also has a very different side: pure unfiltered space techno that should only be listened to from the command center while traversing at warp speed.  I think it's safe to say we got a visit from his techno sensibilities with this exclusive mix. Strap in!

His heart was tight and his pockets were lined with gold. Money was not the problem but this was some kind of twisted love in which he got little back for the pennies he'd spent. One night was never enough, at least not in this town when everyone had their price, vice and rolled the dice. It was a strange old place with characters from far and wide, the city stood tall unfazed by the charades which played out beneath an empire of profit and eccentricity. It was a ballers paradise and a paupers plague, at least to the naked eye. 

Justin Cudmore hasn't released an independent record this year but that's not to say he sure as hell hasn't been busy. Now as we approach the closing act of 2018 he delivers a strong minded two track affair on Phonica White. Strap in.

Following the exhilarating ‘Baby’ on Drumcode, Tiger Stripes returns to Truesoul with a pair of retro-inspired house cuts. 

The Swede has one of the deepest discographies in house and techno, marked by an ear for deep grooves, dynamic arrangements and cleverly utilised vocals. In a career spanning 15 years, those-in-the-know won’t argue: he’s one of the industry’s most dependable and creative talents. 

His last outing on Truesoul was the inspiring cross-genera collaboration ‘Sound of The Bettest’
with Riva Starr. A year on, his return ‘Sneaking Hotdogs into People’s Pockets’ likewise revels in scribbling outside the lines. The title comes from a segment on the popular Youtube Channel Vlog Creations and the track similarly fizzes with the same sense of fun. Tiger Stripes says he wanted to create a cut influenced by his “guilty pleasure” of ‘90s influenced dance pop music, while crafting a work that stays true to his production style, imbued with plenty of depth, groove and soul. The resulting vocal-driven track does this with deft spirit. ‘Guidelines’ is similarly a trip down memory lane. Named after the club night he used to run in Stockholm, he extracts influenced from his home country’s fertile scene in the early 2000s, where disco-influenced house and techno ruled the roost.

On the Zeroreux EP, Joton delivers four strong cuts that perfectly matches Format trademarked basement techno vibe. Up first is the title track, which sets the tone with an ensemble of solid kicks and whirling synth stabs. Setaoc Mass drops a bass-heavy remix of the track that will definitely do the damage on the floor. Adding a scruffier, slightly more metallic groove to the mix, ‘Doscope’ weaves in dubby sounds and minimal percussion. Closing the EP is ‘Develose’, an uptempo and industrial belter designed for peaktime purposes. 
FR016 continues Format’s quality discography with another release that’s not to be missed.

This double LP kicks off with DJ Varsovie's track 'Leaving Earth', exploring the piano through a sweet melody while maintaining a crisp four-on-the-floor rhythm. In contrast to this exploration, we really recognize the artist's touch on the other side of his first vinyl. 

Romantic and sentimental, DJ Varsovie signs two tracks: 'September' and 'In My Dreams', faithful to his sensibility. Both songs contain lyrics, written by the artist himself. 'September' mixes synths, percussions and melodies all into a dancefloor killer track. 'In My Dreams' presents a strong intro before it goes down almost dramatically to become a lighter and textured techno killer.
