Bridging the gap between untamed techno hues and nostalgic recollections of ultimate electro worlds, fused with jazz and soul notions, South African born artist, label owner and promoter Sophie Forrest lands her spot with finesse. Applying a musical palette that grasps varying influences, the air from Melbourne based Sophie Forrest is welcome, whether it be in the studio, before a dance floor or in the kitchen as a small-batch hot sauce aficionado. As one of the nation’s few transgender DJs and producers, she too champions trans-represantion across the Australian dance community, celebrating equality, ambition and talent in music.

This particular mix was recorded in the cage warming up for DJ Holographic at Transenergy x Revolver Fridays, March 2023.

The auditory landscape at Testing Grounds, on Wurundjeri Country, encompasses a diverse array of sounds, crafting a vibrant and at times overwhelming sonic environment. These sounds, characterized by their loud, abrupt, and occasionally jarring nature, emanate from human activity and the infrastructure that underpins urban existence.
Harmony and Dissonance, utilises high frequency sounds which possess a soft, delicate, and melodious quality.
This juxtaposition serves to accentuate the contrast between two distinctly disparate auditory landscapes, shedding light on the tension between urban development and our connection to the natural environment. Furthermore, it explores the inherent beauty that can emerge when something gentle and refined is layered with a noisy and unruly backdrop.
Harmony and Dissonance, stimulates contemplation and emotion, and offers fresh perspectives on familiar elements of our surroundings.

Gee Ward's piece introduces the dandelion as the out of place plant, a weed that has grown without permission and disrupts our idea of perfection. During the performance, Gee plants the seed of this weed within the folds of the models bodies. Their bodies become a landscape, and in turn, a platform  to those that live outside of what is considered 'normal'.
