Pack your bags, the psychedelic funk ship is about to set sail with the latest collab to hit Fort Knox Recordings.  Fort Knox Five and Lazy Syrup Orchestra are at the helm, so get ready to Start the Ride.

For the last decade Steve Raskin (FK5) and Duncan Smith (Lazy Syrup Orchestra, The Funk Hunters) have spent a lot of time together on the road playing festivals and shows. These two are huge fans of all types of funky music and have influenced one another and remixed each others songs, but never collaborated on an original tune… until now! 

Start the Ride is a mid-tempo trippy g-funk meets hip-hop floor burner that is a perfect blend of the two group's sound that can only be described as “Fort Knox sticky-icky Syrupy drip”. Incorporating chill wave synths and disco elements, Dunks and Raskin brewed the funky backbone of beats, bass and keys for the Syrup vocalists to flow over. 

With his old school hip hop flavor, Thomas Workshop drops some psychedelic wordplay and storytelling on top of the bumping bass, bubbling keys, percolating percussion and west coast syrupy synths. Fans of the FK5 Twitch livestreams will know Mark Woodyard from their epic live looping DJ sets, and Mark's playful vocals slip and slide all over the tune.  

Start the Ride is a guaranteed fun trip! This release is the fourth installment of the DC to BC collaboration series, following the funk meets glitch-hop Keep The Funk Real with Slynk, last summer's soul funk Playin' with Fire featuring Emily Molloy, and the dance-floor banger that started it all, Jinglin' Janglin', with K+lab. The release also includes an extended mix and extended instrumental for the DJs so get on board and Start the Ride.

Fort Knox Five’s longtime friends and brothers in funk, Vancouver-based The Funk Hunters have delivered one of the baddest floor-rocking remixes ever!  This track debuted in the Fractal Forest at the 2015 Shambhala Music Festival where it electrified the masses and brought the crowd to a fever pitch. The Funk Hunters have injected their signature sound into “Whatcha Gonna Do” with big drops, huge hooks, and enough glitch and disco to make you put your hands up!  This is a guaranteed banger full of West Coast synths and chunked out beats. Easy to see why this one is already a staple of The Funk Hunters amazing live sets.

The next “Whatcha Gonna Do” Remix is by Father Funk, the Leeds, UK based producer known for his clever remixes and smashing edits.  Father Funk’s remix begins with Rob Myers’ retro wah-wah guitar and Mustafa Akbar’s soulful party chants then quickly escalates into a wobbly, bass heavy, butt-shaking glitch-hop monster! Hold on tight as Father Funk breaks it down, takes it back to the original soul vibe and then finishes strong with a deep groove.

The original mix of “Whatcha Gonna Do” featuring Mustafa Akbar is a quintessential Fort Knox Five slice of retro disco funk – straight from the ’70s – infused with tight, electronic production. With its live horns, funky guitar riffs and Mustafa Akbar’s soulful hooks, Fort Knox Five has created an irresistible party anthem. The story of Fort Knox Five and Stickybuds goes back over a decade, funk is the glue that binds these brothers together, and they have rocked the same great festivals and shows across the US and Canada.  All of that funky party rockin' has culminated with Stickybuds' first official remix of Fort Knox Five, his reinterpretation of Give It A Minute featuring bcap. No doubt you have heard Stickybuds teasing the crowd with some exclusive Fort Knox Five acapellas and drops over the years in his legendary sets, but this opens a whole new chapter with his bombastic remix.

Stickybuds cuts right to the chase, as his mix opens up immediately to bcap's narrative verse and the relentless percussive synths that propel it over the hard hitting beats.  Synth pop sensibilities of groups like Oliver and Chromeo can be heard dripping over Stickybuds unique glitch-hop style production.  With epic big builds and organic drum fills, the remix rides the line between electro and classic funk.

Also included is the instrumental version, which slays on its own and highlights Stickybuds impeccable studio production.  This killer remix of Give It A Minute is meant to be played loud and danced furiously to, and is the best way we could imagine finishing out the year, with an absolute banger.
