In Hour 2 our guest is DJ Vadim who first appeared on Solid Steel in 1996 back in the Kiss FM days and has featured regularly since. He steps up with a mix dedicated to his love of hip hop, reggae and dancehall, and for him 'they are like brother and sister, children of the same parents, same struggles and desires. Different in production, but share so many things in common'. It's another perfect mix for a hot day in London and features music from Yelloman, Roots Manuva, General Levy, Cutty Ranks and Top Cat, plus music from Vadim himself ahead of his new album Dubcatcher which is out on BBE next week.

With Annie Dolly hailing from Detroit, hip hop and lyricism has always been a love of hers. She found herself in Los Angeles perusing acting when suddenly in 2014 she dropped the auditions and picked up the mic. She them joined up with long time friend Lou E. Bagels to start rocking as a live emcee over his sets. Bagels a seasoned DJ and a known selector started seeking out booty shaking tunes that had space for Annie to drop her thought provoking rugged raps over. One Halloween night the duo caught the eye of the HBIC of MalLabel and made an agreement that night on the dancefloor to drop their first single on her label. So turn the speakers up and watch your subs FLEX because 2TIGHT has arrived.

Their newest EP, Flex, or Flex The Speakers, is a shout out to the soundboys and soundgirls of the world, and an ode to everything they do. In a world of big names and giant, intricate, and flashy stages the sound techs rarely get the recognition they deserve, but those performers who understand know that without your diligence the whole show would fall flat. Raise a glass to the techs that flex those speakers right with some feel good flavor infused with some bumpin' party vibes carrying Annie's cheeky-sly lyrical styles through the night. Following the chart success of Prosper & Stabfiner's funk fused 'Fire in Me' EP, we now have a full remix ep from a collective of great artists who find ways to deliver a new take on the tracks. Moving the sound on in a more electronic direction, all 4 remixes keep the funk at their core. First up on the EP is an expertly crafted moombahtonesque rework from the enigmatic Loo & Placido which fuses Georges Perin's vocal lines with heavy rhythm and infectious carnival vivbes. This is set to do damage on many a dance floor. Next up, AGFA & Trotter deliver a funky breaks and electronica rework of 'Drive By Pony' which is followed on by Kibosh who are not not happy to remix just the one track but fuse two two together to make 'Fire My Pony', a funk exploration that incoporates Kibosh's forward thinking funked out, bass glitch sound. Rounding off the package superbly are Loïs (fr) & Bruckie who bring together a relentless acid groove to compliment Ashley Slater's blues soaked vocals to create another infectious monster.

'We’ve had the pleasure of him stalking us in our hometown for some time now, and once, in an outrage over his wonderfulness, we tripped him up at the top of the stairs on purpose. He promptly picked himself up and pointed out that our form was wrong and spent the next three hours making us trip him up until we did it to perfection. He beamed at us through bloody, broken teeth.
