"Every jangly guitar chord ever broadcast over AM radio is still out there vibrating, one wave among many in the ever-expanding cosmos. They hear Roy Orbison's three-octaves loud and clear at the other end of the galaxy, the Vox Continental minor/major organ stabs from '96 Tears' teeter around the edge of some celestial Kirby Crackle, The Ronnettes' broken hearted melodies bounce off purple deserts on the dark side of Venus. The songs are out there, you simply have to tune your instruments to them.

Jason Woodbury is a galactic citizen, dialing in from the Sonoran Desert on planet Earth. 'Something Happening/Always Happening' is the debut from his project JPW. It’s a collection of songs you might hear on the radio after a transcendental trip as you settle into the seat of your wood-paneled station wagon to drive home for work the next morning. Songs for stepping out of the spaceship to crack a goddamn cold one on a blurry summer day, taking a moment to enjoy the smell of freshly cut grass.

Woodbury's voice may be familiar to those interested in the more theologic strains of American songwriting. For the last decade, he’s penned liner notes and criticism, and contributed to Aquarium Drunkard, hosting the weekly Transmissions podcast and Range and Basin on Radio Free Aquarium Drunkard on dublab, a radiophonic showcase for his love of comic books, science fiction, and mysticism. All of that is legible on the surface of 'Something Happening/Always Happening,' but here listeners are gifted with another side of Jason's voice: his singing, which is just as unhurried and serene as you'd expect.
Mostly self-recorded by Woodbury with longtime musical collaborators Zach Toperek and Zane Gillum, the album was produced by Michael Krassner of Boxhead Ensemble, a long running instrumental combo which has aligned members of Dirty Three, Califone, Will Oldham, Gastr del Sol, Jim O'Rourke, and many more. A natural outgrowth of their work together on Range and Basin and shared love of Arizona's diverse topography, Krassner wandered deep into the sounds, adding guitar and piano to the ghostly tones, percolating Rhythm Ace drum machine beats, and sand dune surf guitars. The result is mood music in a sense—listen casually and you might even miss the unexplained aerial phenomena before your eyes. But by the time the final/title track, built on a sample of Link Cromwell's (Lenny Kaye) 'Crazy Like a Fox,' reaches its atomizing 9th minute, Woodbury's thesis is clear: not only are we all made of star stuff, that stuff is alive and vibrating. Adjust your frequencies and hear it sing."

Lauds’ debut full-length Imitation Life is a lush, aural tapestry of blissed-out guitars against a backdrop of rhythmic tension woven by the five-piece, Wilmington, NC-based band. The lyrics of the 10 tracks ping-pong between anxious introspection and the search for fleeting bits of contentment in life, like the best empathetic, reflective autumnal rock of the second Brit invasion era. On songs like Wasted Hours, 24 and Rust, the elegantly anguished vocals wash over the listener like the waters of Cape Fear and the Atlantic Ocean that dominate the Wilmington landscape, evoking the “post-surf stupor” that songwriters J. Holt Evans lll and Mckay Glasgow feel after a day riding its waves.

infinitikiss is an ever-evolving musical and visual recording project conceptualized by Nic Jenkins, featuring a revolving ensemble of curious and experimental artists, musicians, and performers. The core material for this album came from live improvisations that were recorded to cassette tapes, which originally served as backing tracks for live solo performances and with rotating ensembles (circa 2015-2020), in and around Charleston + Columbia, SC. Since then, the tapes have since become a kind of sample library of colors & shapes that have served a variety of sound collage / design situations, as well as fodder for other strange + beautiful collaborations.  'ambient music' is infinitikiss' first full length release with Fort Lowell Records.

Following the January release of their celebrated second album, The Age of Fracture, CYMBALS close the year out with a limited edition 7" entitled What Eternity, featuring two new songs - 'Talk To Me' and 'Innocence'. Both songs were produced by Dreamtrak and mixed by Dan Rejmer. Marking the end of what has been an incredibly eventful twelve months, the 7" will be released on 1st December through Tough Love. Note to the collectors - 100 copies will be pressed on blue vinyl.

The songs on What Eternity come to the wider world at almost the same time they did to the band – both tracks were recorded in September of this year, very soon after CYMBALS returned from their first US tour. Emboldened by the reception they received from audiences in cities thousands of miles from home, a concerted effort was made to harness the energy and enthusiasm of those US shows and to create something that reflected the band right now. The circumstances around The Age of Fracture dictated it be recorded over a long period of time, whereas there is a immediacy to these new songs at odds with the long stretches of time that often bridge the gap between a song being recorded and its release – they are very much of the moment, both direct and vital. As such, they might well be CYMBALS’ best songs to date. As singer Jack, says:

"These songs are close to what I am feeling during this current moment, in other words this season, or the stretch of time from spring to autumn this year. They are a little more personal and introspective, which is some kind of difference for us.  We don't want to explain them too much, given that so many words accompanied the album we wrote last year and released earlier this year - these songs have no notes with them, no explanations, no justifications.  The only thing we should say is that the title is borrowed from a book by Marguerite Yourcenar, who herself borrowed it from a poem. We've messed with the punctuation and in so doing changed the meaning to suit what we wanted to say."

CYMBALS will be playing CMJ in New York next week, along with two shows in France. More live dates will be confirmed in the coming months.
