Does your life need more cowbell and funky bass?  

Over the past decade there has been a strong connection between Washington DC and British Columbia, Canada. Both places have produced and nurtured some incredibly talented funkateers, many of whom have remixed Fort Knox Five over the years. It has been a dream of ours to collaborate with these artists on original tracks, pushing forward the future sound of funk to start a new era that we have dubbed "DC to BC." This release is the first of these collaborations, and the end result is nothing short of a boogie monster!  

Jinglin’ Janglin’ was written with the funk and glitch hop maestro K+lab, a New Zealander who now calls Vancouver, BC home. His funky keys, electro-basses and catchy clavinets ooze all over this track. With the addition of Rob Myers' Chic-inspired guitars and a super-stabby horn line, this track positively bounces along – a perfect hybrid of the K+Lab and FK5 styles! On top of all that, the tune features vocals from Hip-Hop royalty: Baby Bam of the Jungle Brothers, who has worked alongside De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest going back to the 1980s. His vocals bubble all over the track, telling you to just "funk wit it" and jinglin and janglin the vibes straight to your feet! This tune is a modern funk-meets-glitch hop banger that has been torching dance floors and festivals all summer.  

We are super stoked to launch the DC to BC series with this wicked Captain K+lab collaboration. Already proven to do heavy duty on the dance floor, this release includes an instrumental mix for the DJs. Ian Evans & I collaborated on The Road Ahead, Vol. 1 over the course of two years. It’s a full-length beat tape of chill, instrumental hip-hop with jazz-inspired tendencies. Our production style lives in various realms at once. Some of our beats are lofi, classic, and boom bap, while others are trap-inspired and downtempo. The constant thread is the mood between the notes that seems to run through each piece.  As a team, we take the music further in collaboration than either of us would be able to on our own. It's something special.

This project is just a sliver of what's in our production folder, in part why we decided to release a 48 minute album in an era of singles. I've been releasing one song every month since October 2018. Nearing a year of his song-a-month schedule, I'm breaking the pattern to put out this LP of beats.

The project was completed amidst the current global pandemic and the uprising of people demanding justice for Black lives. We felt that we had to get some music out for the movement, and for anyone who likes listening to beats to catch a break from all that's going on. We finally realized how much unreleased music we were sitting on. We hope that it allows you time to chill and reflect, and that the music sends a compassionate message for the times we are living in.

As the album cover symbolizes, The Road Ahead, Vol. 1 intends to provide a hopeful score for an uncertain future. The girl on the album cover is Ian Evans' daughter Mahalia. She represents future generations.

Fort Vine is an indie folk-pop band named after a secret tree fort they built in Manhattan. Their feel-good music embraces every audience with open arms as their strong harmonies resonate with meaningful poetry and happy grooves.

Fort Vine has been named one of NYC's best unsigned bands by the New York Observer. Their music has been featured in the film Origins: Transworld Snowboarding and Apple's Solar Eclipse campaign. They successfully crowd-funded the vinyl pressing of their first two records via Feedbands.com and Qrates.com. Recently their music was featured in the trailer of Facebook's new web-series, Five Points.

Fort Vine is currently touring North America in support of their 3rd release, Rise & Shine. They are living full-time in their beloved self-converted sprinter van, Gypsee Bungalow, as they travel around the country.
