On March 14th, our collective hosted a virtual room at COMMON MULTIVERSE INITIATIVE - a week-long interactive festival curated by Currents.

Halfway around the world from us in Istanbul, @fosilbass has been making an international name for himself in the underground bass music community. He specializes in aggressive breakbeats that have raided clubs and radio stations over the last few years. This set touches on that, featuring plenty of dancefloor firepower and experimental moments.

Fosil (Berhan Yıldız) is an artist that eschews standard convention in favor of expanding his sonic palette - fusing elements of Left-field bass music, Experimental and Breakbeat into a sonic tapestry that is uniquely his own. Fosil co-founded Badmash Collective in 2018 to contribute his part in shaping an essential sound and cultivating the culture of the ever-evolving Turkish underground scene.

3pillie is a musician/mc living in Istanbul. Although his main instrument is the piano, he records other instruments for his beats and compositions in live sessions. 3pillie released three songs EP including jazz, neo-soul, and hip-hop elements on Istanbul-based label Badmash and then various singles. He continues to prepare for his new album to be released.

Istanbul’s dearest Badmash is 5 years old! To celebrate this, they released a compilation album “5 years of Badmash”, involving 23 local and foreign artists, late January. And today, to celebrate this moment with the Badmash collective and longtime listeners, we are having a BADMASH takeover on Root.

Hailing from Turkey and co-founder of Badmash, experimental artist Berhan Yıldız AKA Fosil has the underground scene of Istanbul’s eyes on him.

With his heralded and often abstract live sets at the globally recognised Pixie Club, Fosil is an artist that eschews standard convention in favour of expanding his sonic palette - fusing elements of Dubstep, left-field bass music, Footwork and Jungle into a sonic tapestry that is uniquely his own.

Releasing music on Japanese record label Kwaioto and his own Badmash imprint, Berhan is an artist that is helping to shape a key sound and cultivating the culture of the ever-evolving Turkish underground scene.
