Mr. Popescu comes from palinka-land, a quiet place where nothing out of the ordinary happens very often. Perhaps that’s why he’s developed such an interesting and groovy approach to his music. Digging a bit deeper into his background, it came as no surprise that Discret Popescu is in fact, the ying to Alin Crihan’s yang, the lighter more playful side of his sonic universe.

"The latest release from this camp is Kuzma Palkin's Sierpinski Curve, a double 10-inch on the trackier Gost Instrument sub-label. Compared to Palkin's only other record, the dense and rich Audiosapr LP, these four tracks are decidedly functional, but by no means conventional. There are hooks, however minimalistic, like the gusts of hi-hats on "SugrobChill," or the warped sub-bassline on "3 DeepTX" that creeps into the mid-range. The drums are grimy and punch-drunk in a way that recalls STL. Little flourishes make the arrangements feel loose and unpredictable—the one-off drum fills on "3 DeepTX," or the unexpected moment near the end of "SugrobChill" when the beat, until then a fierce and lean techno pulse, falls into a stepping rhythm. More evidence, if any was needed, that this crew has flown under the radar for too long."

When I think of James Winter I think of feel good house music and moving my feet – these are the two essentual elements I am aiming for with this new project called „Abby Jane meets...“ hence why having James launching the Podcast series is a perfect fit and absolute win! 
James first started to develop a big passion for house music in 2008. With 10 years in the game and 8 years of working on his own productions he had several releases over the last years on labels such as Safe Music, DJ w!lds Catwash records, Witty tunes and a forthcoming release on Romainian label Conceptual Records.

He certainly is one of the special producers and Djs I came across, he combines an atmospheric deep sound with a hint of UK garage and keeps it minimal and clean in his productions. A true inspiration! 
Coming from the electro scene back in the day and being influenced by people like Erol Alkan, Brodinski and Kerri Chandler he now finds himself more in the music of Rhadow, Janeret, Diego Krause & the Beste Modus crew. Also his friend Dave Garfit, also known as Niko Maxen, has played a special role in his musical journey. #1 Abby Jane meets... James Winter

FOUND WITHIN FRIENDS is a new feature series on Found Within with a monthly mix session, interview and music discussion - featuring friends and up and coming artists in the scene. This month we have two very special guests, Dajana Dedic & Andre Stahlhofen - otherwise known as ‘The Fields’.

This month we warmly welcome our friends Andre and Dajana into the Found Within fold for our fam-vibe podcast series. We have always felt a connection with these two, and are excited to have them onboard with us to showcase their craft and meticulous DJing abilities. Having known Dajana and Andre for some years, we and anyone else who knows them will recognise the warmth, dedicated compassion and absolute drive that they have for their music. It came as no surprise that their debut year was so highly successful; with an international festival booking, their own successful on-going monthly party, and various gigs and festival slots around Melbourne and afar.

Andre was born and raised in Berlin, so discovered his love for electronic music from a very young age. Starting with an interest in Drum ‘n’ Bass at age 22, he purchased his first set of turntables and started playing gigs around Berlin. Over the following five years, his taste began to evolve. Becoming intrigued by the deep house and techno scenes of Berlin, he began playing in a duo with good friend Andi Ejtsch as ‘Walls of Destiny’ in clubs such as Griessmule, Astra, Fritz Club & Lido. Dajana grew up in Melbourne after migrating from Germany at the age of six. She always had a deep love for music, and trained in classical piano for 12 years. It wasn’t until her first trip to Berlin in 2012 where she fell in love with electronic music and began regularly attending events back home in Melbourne’s underground scene.

During Dajana’s second visit to Berlin in 2015 she met Andre, and they instantly bonded over their shared taste in music. Whilst living in Berlin together for eight months, they became immersed in the Berlin club scene and started DJing together.
In late 2016 they moved to Melbourne with a goal to start playing out together, develop their own sound, and make their mark on Melbourne’s electronic scene. Whilst their early days were challenging, they quickly began landing sought-after gigs at venues such as Killing Time, New Guernica, My Aeon, Glamorama and Railway Hotel Brunswick.

In August 2017, things turned a corner when they won a DJ competition called ‘Your Shot’. This saw them being flown to San Diego, USA, to play at CRSSD festival, where they warmed up the main stage for Dixon, Marcel Dettmann and KINK.

It was during this time that they got together with two close friends James Egan and Denis Khassapov and decided to start throwing a monthly day party in Melbourne called ‘Who Loves?’. Their idea was to bring their love for melodic and deeper European sounds to Melbourne in an event that had the atmosphere of a music festival. Their event has grown considerably over the past eight months, showcasing well-known and respected artists as well as showing support to many talented newcomers to the scene. This has been an immensely proud achievement for The Fields and the Who Loves? team. Their hope is to continue growing their event and pushing their sound further, not only to establish themselves, but also to contribute to Melbourne’s diverse underground scene.

The set they have recorded for us is absolutely packed - showcasing a wealth of knowledge. Their use of sublime and coherent progressions, tight, rolling deep grooves, and sophisticated melodic records, expand and open up so coherently with their perfectly calibrated track selection. One can easily imagine this set shaking the stacks of a summer festival rig to its limits! Well done guys!

FOUND WITHIN FRIENDS 003: The Fields

When I decided to start this podcast series Jules David instantly popped up in my mind. I have been following his music since I first heard him play at the infamous Killing Time Bar in Melbourne. His sound is unique and always makes me feel like I’m a tripping little robot traveling through space. His basslines are extremely dub and hip hop inspired and everyone who knows me knows that’s exactly the kind of music vibe that makes my knees go weak and my heart beat faster. 

Jules has been releasing music for almost a decade now and he’s been putting out his music on labels all around the globe. You will find his music on Lethan Script Label (2015, Ukraine), several releases on Conceptual (2015-2017, Moldova), Samani & Frucht (2016, both Germany), Inregistrari Interplanetare & Real Rhythm (2016, both Columbia) and Minihard (2016, Dominican Republic) - just to mention a few. 

He has played at various places in Melbourne such as Motion:Theory:Music, Doesn't Matter, Forgotten Kingdom, Black Market and the earlier mentioned Killing Time Bar. His sets are filled with everything but the expected. His music introduces people to the unknown and unheard world of sounds and less represented forms of techno and minimal they don’t get to hear everyday - a truly unique experience!

Currently Jules is sitting on a lot of unreleased music and working on future vinyl releases so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more music to come out soon!

As with all good things in life, the essence of Found Within is inspired by times spent with friends, celebrating life and the emotions they induce. Friendship and comfort, combined with an innate lust for life, is the ultimate platform for expression.

We want to push this concept past the walls of a house and give people exposure, enabling them to pursue what makes their soul dance, to look within, to find their creative spark and to feed it until it becomes a roaring fire!
