Peggy Gou is back with 'Seek For Maktoop', her first instalment on Ninja Tune's club-focused offshoot Technicolour. Named after the Arabic word 'maktoob' - the equivalent to 'written' or 'destiny' - this new EP shows off a sharp Detroit house charisma through straight-up sensuous house rollers, and  should winningly validate the seriousness of Peggy's endeavour. We caught up between two flights and tried to find out more about her impressive rise to prominence.

Credit 00 delivers his debut album “Game Over”. After four EPs for Uncanny Valley the Leipzig based musician is now ready to let loose his electronic visions on full length. As everybody can confirm who saw him playing live or DJing, the head behind Uncanny Valley’s sub label Rat Life is a slave to the rhythm on a full-time basis. Obsessed with sound, he can’t stop pushing the buttons of his synthesizers and drum machines like someone torturing the controls of an Arcade machine. “Game Over” is an electronic love letter to the romantic fantasy worlds of classic video games and their bleepy and clonky sounds which used to be common also in repetitive electronic dance music.
Collecting tracks from the last six years, “Game Over” is also a passion project that channels all his influences. You can get a glimpse of the ingredients that make up his record collection. Whether it is Hip Hop,Techno, Electro Boogie, New Beat, Italo, Jungle, Reggae, House or Chill Out. Though, all those different sounds and styles do not tear this album apart. It’s a bit of a miracle that it feels so flawless for what happens between the appetizing “Level One” and the final track “The Last March”. Those beats on “Game Over” can be brutally effective like the fatalities in Mortal Kombat while the overlying sounds can be smooth like the lemmings’ animations in the eponymous Amiga game. Just listen to the title track. Or the instant hip shaker “Breakers Revenge” that comes with a little help from friends like Sara Stammburg on vocals and Max Rademann on Rhodes.

Without losing sight on the dance floor Credit 00 creates an electronic wonderland that delights dancers and connoisseurs at the same time. To top things off the wonderful artwork was created by Alexander Dorn a.k.a. Credit 00 himself.

@minimalafrika 'Sundown' features a slow-moving nocturnal bassline interlaced with tribal-like vocals, alluding to the ritualistic feel of the sun going down. Breezy hi-hats gradually increase as the track's groove grows, flowing in between grimy vox samples and an exotic synth meant for dark and incense-filled dancefloors only.

Minimal Afrika - Sundown [UN.T.O.]

As the name suggests, 'Fire Burning When We Are' is a lusty, slow-burning track that unfolds into a soundscape journey across a pattering house line. "We got to the studio after a long tour and you can really hear that we were inspired by our travels, watching the world from the planes and cars," the Polish duo explain about the creative thought behind the EP. "Lots of analog synths, 909 drums and analog bass. It's very emotional and powerful." Out on May 22 on Watergate Records.

Premiere: Catz 'N Dogz 'Fire Burning When We Are'

Fast forward to the summer of 2017, and Mazian is ready to drop an EP that not only confirms his status as a rising star of Dutch dance music, but also showcases a newfound ability to combine a finely-tuned sense of what works on the dancefloor with the kind of compositional skills that can take a lifetime to perfect.
The Duplicate EP is an altogether more mature proposition than his debut 12", but retains many of the sounds and influences that marked out his first appearance on Voyage Direct - not least his love of spacey electronics, mood-enhancing chord progressions and sparkling synthesizer motifs.
This can be heard in particular on the title track, an ear-catching club jam that wraps chiming melodies, Mazian's own rapped vocal refrains and electro-era synths around a gently jacking, Chicago style house groove. It's deep, poignant and attractive, with subtle nods to the dreamy Windy City deep house of Larry Heard, the retro-futurist boogie business of Moon B and Dam Funk, and the kaleidoscopic electronic funk of Parliament.
Further proof of Mazian's increased musical maturity can be heard in the breathtaking "Dream Mix" of Duplicate. Featuring a yearning, almost melancholic vocal from the producer himself, the remix offers an analogue style deep house interpretation bristling with cascading melody lines, classic Chicago house bass and bubbly, deep space electronics.
The EP closes with superb bonus cut premiered here "Ride That Shit Baby", an expansive chunk of mind-altering analogue deep house full of restless ride cymbals, crunchy drum machine hits, starburst electronics, delay-laden organ lines and swirling chord progressions. It's as intricately programmed and produced as anything Mazian has released to date, and twice as emotion-rich. In some ways, it's the perfect end to an EP in which Mazian brilliantly showcases the depth and breadth of his emerging talent.

Tune is like sitting in Sigmund Freud’s chair, getting deep and psychoanalysised. Not with all the Freudian mother shit though. Just with  more weightless synths and floaty vocals than you could shake a stick at.

London based, @axeonwax-records label head @fede-lng launches a new sub-label dubbed PNP with ‘PNP 01’, featuring the dreamy and melodic house cut ‘Inside Your Love Edit’.

Since launching in 2014, Axe On Wax has become a prominent supplier of deep, dancefloor focused grooves, releasing material from the likes of Boo Williams, Chaos In The CBD, DJ Aakmael and Mall Grab, among others. In the past year alone, it’s sub-label Axe Traxx has developed a reputation for the finest in gritty, dusty house. Now a new sub-label comes into the fold to broaden the Axe On Wax reach even further.

On ‘PNP 01’, Fede Lng sets off with a similar hazy motif that he’s become known for in recent years. ‘Inside Your Love Edit’ possesses an infectiously emotive essence met with driving and steady house rhythms, revealing a moody track with strong dancefloor appeal. 

‘PNP 01’ is set for release on June 26 and also features tunes from Deejay Astral, Jesse Bru and Nostalgia.

Shall Not Fade - an imprint synonymous not only with quality, but also quick ascension into the stratosphere of tastemaking success, have locked Leeds based LK once more; with his melodic and dreamy, ‘Think About it First’ EP.
 
Each of the four tracks shuffles and swings around the corridors of moody house - think Floating Points with a darker LK twist. The A2 cut, “Think About It First” keeps pretty tightly within the theme of the EP, perhaps a shade moodier and discordant than other tracks - a little more smoking behind the bikeshed as opposed to double chemistry.
