Ross Tones aka Throwing Snow here launches his own new label with the Clamor EP. Across three tracks and one remix from Gold Panda, the release continues to explore the simultaneously frosty yet comforting sonic landscapes that have won him plenty of plaudits (including the likes of Giles Peterson and Thom Yorke) since first emerging in 2010.

As for the new label itself, Snowfall will be something solely curated by Ross; something free from the usual A&R constraints of working for other labels. It will be tied together only by his unique tastes, meaning anything goes from noise to techno to juke to bass to way beyond all of the above. Furthermore, the label will also offer more than just music, be it different release formats, clothes lines and more.

The inaugural EP, Clamor (a Latin word meaning 'loud outcry’ or ‘shout') sees Ross travel yet further outside his usual sphere without straying too far from his trademark textures, drawing on rock-like arrangements whilst at the same time fusing elements of electronica at all available opportunities.

The title track sounds set in some huge open church for the way it echoes and resonates with an untold spirituality. A clatter of tumbling drums bring darkness down below whilst glissando keys and brutish percussion bring a delightfully staccato rhythm up top. ‘Perca’ is alive with busy strings and mutant voices, underlapping claps and plenty of texture adding found sounds: challenging and complex music, it still somehow manages to strike a very human chord.

‘Brook’ meanwhile, glistens like water at the seaside; plucked strings and muffled voices lurk in the shadows and the whole thing sounds like Shlohmo and Fly Lo taking a beach holiday in the Caribbean. Closing out the EP Gold Panda returns a remix favour and strips back ‘Brook’ to a lurching, syncopated and lo-fi hip-house groove that rings out into the night.

Not only another great EP from Throwing Snow, but this release also likely marks the start of something great in Snowfall...

Rob Clouth is one of my favourite producers out there at the moment, if you've heard any of my sets recently then you will have heard his Vaetxh stuff in there, the glitchy super-detailed madness! So when he turned himself to making an EP for Traum I jumped on the opportunity to get involved with a remix.

His methods and style are very original, so it was quite a difficult remix to make, the track just didn't want to fit into a normal techno format! I ended up going for a really heavy shuffle on the drums and trying to make the track a little more dancefloor in it's arrangement, but I wanted to try and keep the approach of the original too so I introduced a lot of complexity into the drums, as Rob said, it's like a lattice of details. So here it is, I hope you like it, and if you're going to do one thing this year, then give the rest of the EP a good listen, in my opinion it's the best release of the year in this genre, properly amazing stuff from Rob Clouth.

It's increasingly hard to keep tabs on everything Boris Bunnik does these days, but one of his most loved aliases is Conforce. It is that identity he assumes here for a return to one of his most regular homes, Delsin, following the still excellent 'Escapism' album he served up at the end of 2011.

This Time Dilation EP is designed for deeper dancefloors: 'Nomad' roams in dark and derelict spaces with the clatter of machines off in the distance and a sense of tension never far away. 'Receiver' is a more purposeful cut that rolls on vast techno kicks as glassy tinkles and ominous synths colour the backdrop before 'Last Anthem' bangs the hardest of the lot. It's techno, but techno stuff with cinematism, techno that really traps you in the imagined alien world of Conforce from start to finish.

Closing out the EP with 'Embrace', Bunnik brings you back to earth with a softening dub cushion that glides forwards through more huge open spaces that sound like underwater caves. Few design sounds as evocative as this man, despite the fact he does so on such a regular basis.

We decided to include the original LP version and a club revision we did together with Pional  (we mixed again but i'ts pretty similar to the original :p) that will be exlcusive for this vinyl. Comes in a nice gren vinyl, designed by our great friend Arnau Pi. It was mixed by Hannes Vieger in Berlin in Feb'13

I always bring a keyboard with me when I travel. Sometimes it sits around, collects dust, and I end up unpacking it without using it at all. Regardless, I plopped my two octave USB keyboard in my backpack last week before setting out for Mexico, and I'm glad I did. Whenever there was downtime, I got to work designing new synth patches, siding-chaining stuff together, and whatever I could do to pass the time until we were off for more adventure. I've found that music composition is like a small bottle. One can cram a little world into a song, taking hints from reality and imagination, and carry it along wherever he or she goes. I wrote this song after snorkeling with turtles, and I'll have it as a keepsake.
