DJ  and  production  duo  Hybrid  Theory  have been  working  their  sonic  cuts  in  the  cultural hubs  of  the  midlands.  Birmingham  is  a  go-to city  for dance  music  fans,  holding the  genre's  most  seminal  events  and pushing  its  grittiest, underground sounds.  Since  2010,  they've  been  platforming  releases  on  their  esteemed  Four40  imprint,  a  cutting  edge label  in  the  UK  bass  scene  which  has  been  supported  by  tastemakers  Tom  Shorterz,  Chris  Lorenzo,  Billy Kenny,  Pete  Graham  and  Jamie  George.  Since  the  early  days,  both  the  label  and  its  head  honchos  have showed promise, flying the flag for their music and pedestalling the type of records which find themselves at home in any club, from the UK's darkest corners all the way over to Ibiza. 

Having also been featured on Diplo's Mad Decent label, as well as Norman Cook's seminal Southern Fried Records, they're  in high demand.  On top  of  Jakwob's  Boomting  Recordings  and  Black  Butter,they've  also been enlisted for remix duties by Dim Mak and have received plays from Radio1 and Radio1xtra. The interest around these artists has only grown since their first output and this next EP will throw this into overdrive. 

However  this  time  they've  delivered  three  remixes  from  rising  stalwarts  on  their  own  label.  Including newcomers Pelikann, Skepsis and B Square, Hybrid Theory demonstrates why they set up Four40 Records, giving a space for emerging artists of a high calibre, a place to push theirhard driving sounds. All having their separate takes on Hybrid Theory's ‘V.I.P', Pelikann comes out first with his bass heavy destruction giving a weightier feel to the track's composition. Skepsis draws his rework out with a stabbing hook that grabs you between each segment, growing sharper with every relay of flying beats. And finally, B Squared introduces you to his remix, taking the vocals and contorting them into snippets which bounce alongside its bassline after a free falling drop. All three artistsflex their production skill, proving that they're all ones to watch in the coming months.

Hybrid Theory prove their A&R is as honed as their music, presenting a three track EP which shows exactlywhat they're about.

At Gassed, there are few things we enjoy more than truly creative, original underground bass music, and that is exactly what @invrsemusic has provided us here as we unveil this absolute weapon of a riddim which goes by the name of ‘Poltergeist’. As soon as we hit the borderline bedlam of the breakdown, we can tell we are in for a party as an array of thick bass sounds run riot amidst groovy drum creations and well thought out sub melodies. This one is a perfect fit for this compilation.

As a producer and DJ, Bristol’s @Nuaspect needs no introduction, having amassed fearsome appearances as both a DJ and producer on CruCast and Rinse.FM in the last few months. His track for our long awaited Bass Invaders compilation goes by the name of ‘Hunters’ and is a straight bass roller, which in its creation has the capability to turn any dance to a zoo. We are greeted across the introduction with a bag of spacey atmospherics and distant bass tones, which proceed to take the lead as we hit the gargantuan drop, shaking the ground beneath our feet with it’s monstrous bass designs.

We welcome in the fantastic Louis Benton, who has been steadily building a catalogue of top notch original compositions over the years, so to have him touch down again fills us with excitement. This latest drop encompasses the spirit of new school bassline as we are introduced to a wash of well designed bass sounds and shimmering subs, held together with super skippy drum designs and choppy percussive influxes. This is a perfect way for Louis Benton to see out the year, putting the finishing touches on a very successful 2019, whilst looking ahead to an even more exciting 2020
