Motech was started in Detroit by Franki Juncaj (DJ 3000) as outlet for his own output as well as that of budding producers from across the world. DJ 3000 began appearing on UR releases and was eventually initiated as a UR DJ. Jeran Portis’s ‘Unproven’ combines saturated TR909 drums and delayed chord hits with percussion from bachata and cumbia rhythms to create a driving and evolving groove with the futuristic feel of techno alongside a more organic feel with the live percussion. ‘1988’ was produced during the gloomy housebound days of the Covid pandemic – Nicolson’s aim to make something with positive energy and groove. Synchronicity lies in the fact that 1988 was both the year both techno and he were born.

Dieser Track ist meinem ehemaligen besten Freund gewidmet, der vor Kurzem viel zu früh von uns gegangen ist.

Wir haben viele Jahre unseres Lebens Seite an Seite verbracht – unzählige Gespräche, Nächte voller Lachen, Träume geteilt, Pläne geschmiedet. Auch wenn sich unsere Wege später getrennt haben und der Kontakt eingeschlafen ist, hat mich die Nachricht von deinem Tod tief getroffen.

Es schmerzt unbeschreiblich, dass wir uns nicht noch einmal gesehen haben. Ich bereue es zutiefst, dass ich keine Chance mehr hatte, dir in die Augen zu sehen, dir zu sagen, dass du ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens warst – und es immer bleiben wirst.

Dieses Lied ist mein letzter Gruß an dich. Es ist mein Versuch, das Unausgesprochene fühlbar zu machen, mein stiller Abschied, mein Danke für alles, was war.
