Next up on the Mortimore roster is a newcomer by the name of XAVIER. Establishing himself in Naarm’s underground scene, XAVIER is eager to showcase his abilities as a solid selector in this mix he has delivered us.

Exploring the darker edge of hardgroove in this mix, artists such as Daria Kolosova and KI/KI inspire the aesthetic and energy of XAVIER’s sets. Having grown up with The Prodigy and citing X Club as one of his biggest production inspirations, XAVIER weaves the sounds of his favourite artists to create his own vision in both mixing and producing.

Be sure to check out his recent debut self-release on Soundcloud, titled “Scroll Behaviour”, merging textures of ambient music with dark grooves of techno, this track shows great promise for what is to come from XAVIER.

Four Four Premiere : Críos - Vibe With Me [Clovermind]

We premiere new music from emerging Dublin producer RUANAIDH as the young artist releases his debut track, ‘Shamisen Break’. The youngster blends leftfield percussive grooves with hard-edged techno grit to create an introspective club track that defies genre.

RUANAIDH, the moniker of Dublin-based DJ Richie Rooney, is an exciting and innovative force in Dublin’s electronic music scene. Favouring a blend of bouncy rave and techno tunes, but also not shy to veer into ghetto, electro, jungle and bass, Ruanaidh tends to blur the lines of genre, and never stick to one sound. 

His versatility has earned him slots in many of Dublin’s finest venues, including Index, Wigwam, The Sound House, Bow Lane Social Club and many more. Additionally, he has held down support slots for big names like LaLa, Prozak, and Prince Prada. Making moves in the post-lockdown Dublin scene the past 2 years, and constantly exploring music for far longer, he is an exciting DJ to watch and will only rise further.

The young artist now presents his debut release, ‘Shamisen Break’, a kaleidoscopic and nonconformist entry into the world of club music production. The track is an exploration of sound that seamlessly blends the traditional with the contemporary. The track is built around an enchanting melody of the shamisen, a traditional Japanese folk instrument known for its haunting and evocative tones. A distorted kick and low vibrating synth serve as the backbone of the track, while a tasteful old-school chorus of breaks scintillates throughout the track, weaving their way through the shamisen’s melody. The juxtaposition of an ancient instrument with contemporary percussion and production techniques provides a fascinating view into Ruanaidh’s tastes and ideas. It’s clear, there is much more to come from the young up-and-comer.

Four Four Premiere: RUANAIDH - Shamisen Break

This week's entry to the Four Four Local Selection Mix Series welcomes Dublin-based DJ and promoter Spek. Having started his musical journey a mere year ago the talented up-and-comer has done an impressive job at turning promoters heads across the city by means of winning various mix competitions for collectives in the city. Showcasing his funky style that is dedicated to sounds of the past in the process.

Next up on the Four Four Local Selection Mix Series is Spek. The talented newcomer has already made a firm mark with numerous shows in the short span that he's been spinning at clubs in the city. Playing for parties like Slither, Somewhere Else and his own party Mystery Events in venues such as Cellar, Wigwam and Farrier & Draper in the process, where he showcased his in-depth mixing quality.

His sound draws clear inspiration from the golden era of techno Spek does a fantastic job of fusing the old with the new in this mix as he features artists such as Dylan Fogarty, Cult, Jon10, DJ Swisherman, Funk Assault and more in this eloquent recording. Showcasing killer technique and a consistent flow over the duration of the hour which really helps to keep the listener engaged.

Spek has also found himself as co-creator of the newly formed party Mystery Events where they threw their debut gig in Wigwam on Culture Night. It featured a solid selection of local artists such as LE4H, Sean Molloy, Daniel Warren, Spek and Cult for his first headline show which was a roaring success. The gig featured a surprise appearance from Dylan Fogarty for the last hour with him and Cult closing the evening out in style. No doubt that there will be more parties where that came from! But for now, you can enjoy the latest Local Selection soundtracked by Spek.
