groovy techno party

We’re delighted to premiere a track from one of our favourite artist’s at the moment, LSDXOXO as the Berlin based producer completes our quaternary premiere for the mighty Possession VA. Green Inferno is swimming with old-school techno flavour and is an array of funked up baselines and well orchestrated vocal hits.

American born and Berlin based, LSDXOXO stormed onto the scene in 2018 with his Body Mods album that featured an array of obscure styled tracks that have since become his staple sound and remain essential tools in many DJs arsenals today. His blend of trap, pop and dance music make his sound distinct and give it depth with influences from the most unlikely of places.

In recent times LSDXOXO has been dipping his toes in more techno influenced sounds, but the New Yorker remains experimental in his oeuvre. A recent collaboration with VTSS was met with high plaudits and was a profound portrayal of the queer community in Berlin in 2021.

LSDXOXO also released one of the most anticipated records of the year ‘Dedicated 2 Disrespect’ on the legendary XL Recordings. With such a high volume of music being released daily it can be difficult to build such high anticipation for a release, but LSDXOXO’s ‘Dedicated 2 Disrespect’ was without a doubt the most talked about record of the year and was greatly sought after by DJs across the globe.

LSDXOXO’s contribution to the Possession various artist’s is a playful techno tool, that screams early 2000’s techno. Clocking in at a just under 4 minutes, the track waste’s no time in getting off the line, swinging drums bounce off a grooving baseline. The track is simplistic in nature and poignant in its delivery, LSDXOXO utilises his tools to great effect and the track progresses with supreme repose.

Emerging as artist of note for both now and the future, Chlär continues to craft and shape his sound as he curates his own high-octane approach to techno. Combining dynamic performances taking in three and four deck mixes with his own up front productions and his talents as a former mastering engineer, the Swiss talent has become a respected name amongst his peers. After releases on Lobster Theremin and his own Bipolar Disorder imprint, the Berlin-based DJ, producer and label boss heads to SHDW & Obscure Shape’s blooming label Mutual Rytm to deliver six precise and powerful cuts across his ‘Optimized Groove’ EP.

Opener ‘Early Morning Acceleration’ sets the tone early and dives into a looping ride through slinking hats and bustling arrangements - combining classic influences with forward thinking touches to reveal a dynamic slice of techno. Next, ‘Maximum Performance’ fuses swelling low-ends, sharp percussion and vibrant leads, while ‘Love Blaster’ delivers an all out fiesta armed with rolling drums, sharp whistles and rich chords. On the flip, B1 ‘Night Genesis’ sees hypnotic loopy vocals balanced by tough kicks and luminous synths, before ‘Spirit Enhancer’ showcases a soulful trip as resonant electronics work around the track’s tunnelling groove. The digital EP comes with a bonus exclusive production in ‘Synaptic Discussion’, a euphoric and impactful closer which brings things to a close firmly in the peak time hours.

Mutual Rytm welcomes back Swiss DJ/producer Chlär for a bustling, high-octane return as he unveils his latest six-track EP, ‘Intrinsic Drive’. 

Swiss artist and mastering engineer Chlär’s last outing on Mutual Rytm, his ‘Optimized Grooves’ EP, was a stand- out success that made an impact far and wide across the techno realm. It was another big step for the fast-rising producer, who is also a dexterous DJ that plays across three and even four decks in the club. A craftsman of sounds, his take on techno is full throttle and has come on labels like Iceland’s NIX and Stranger’s Self Reflektion imprint. Always looking to improve his sounds, he hits a perfect sweet spot with a fresh and visionary approach across six fresh productions with his ‘Intrinsic Drive’ EP, again showcasing exemplary creative progression in his ever-impressing production skills. 

Up first is ‘Dopamine Rush’, a quickened techno pumper with synths peeling off the straight-ahead drums and locking you into a state of hypnosis. The title track ‘Intrinsic Drive’ is a tightly woven mix of drums, hits and bass that never lets up, while the supple rhythm is overlaid with alien sound designs to up the intensity. ‘For Marco’ takes a heavier path with darkened and more weighty kick drums under eerie synth loops. There is a real swing in the drums of ‘Steady Pace’ as the crisp hits and vocal fragments all up the ante, before ‘Greedy Man’ delivers a tough panel beater with skewed synths and an industrial undertone. Digital bonus ‘May I Dance?’ rounds things out with raw textures and unhinged loops that take you to the heart of a strobe-lit dance floor, shaping up another mighty fine statement of intent from the ever more vital Swiss native.

Shane Yates, aka Alpharisc, has been living and breathing techno for over 30 years. He first began producing in the mid-90s and has amassed a fine hardware collection that lends his sounds a raw, rugged feel. After breaking through with the Wetmusik party and label collective, he has let his music do the talking and isn’t afraid of colouring it with a hint of nostalgia. Previous material has come via several notable labels over the years, but his most recent outings have been on SHDW’s Mutual Rytm imprint, with his solo EP ‘Ram Face’ from 2023 becoming an underground favourite alongside a fine outing as part of the label’s ‘Federation Of Rytm II’ and ‘Federation Of Rytm III’ compilations. Once again, he returns in style, uncovering an impactful selection of gems across his new ‘Remain Seated’ EP.

The opener ‘Peace Be With You’ is a straight-up techno weapon with urgent synth flashes peeling off the groove like a police siren. The drums hit hard in true Alpharisc style before ‘Hail’ builds on that with a more hard-edge groove topped with frosty waves of white noise that electrify the dance floor. ‘Remain Seated’ brings a hint of trance-leaning energy with its bright sheets of synth lighting up the driving drums and saw-tooth bass loops. Next, ‘Look At This’ is another brilliantly forceful techno sound with slamming drums and rusty synth loops, layering melancholic pads up top and adding a cerebral edge, while closer ‘In Your Mind’ is from the Jeff Mills school of synth-laced and serene deep techno with lush pads radiating cosmic light. As a bonus, digital-only cut ‘Expedition’ brings some backlit celestial synth work to a rubbery and pummelling drum pattern for pure techno escapism.
