Debuting on Sydney based label Gallery Records in 2020 - inspired by the lack of female faces in a male-dominated scene - AK Sports has been setting the standard for her style of high energy, new-age rave spanning breaks, electro, grime, jungle, techno as she finds her footing in the contemporary electronic circuit between London and LA.

Releases and remixes have followed on Dansu Discs, Mad Decent and CLUB GLOW (where she produced a collaborative EP with rising artist Kessler), and now the Aussie producer readies her Lobster Theremin debut; six varied and stylistic cuts of techno, electro and distinct Sports-rave.

‘Dial Up’ is a pirate radio inspired, scattered break warper that captures an underground, empty warehouse energy. Flashes of bright, coloured lasers enter the fray on ‘You Want Some’ - an uplifting, happy-hardcore influenced cut of breakbeat-techno - before the progressive, bubbling patterns of ‘Listen Now’ deepen the undercurrents.

The B-side opens with ‘Odorimashou!’ - a lo-fi industrial experiment laced with trance and jack-hammer melodies - while ‘Flame On’ switches the vibe again with it’s high-speed, malfunctioning electro aesthetic. 

Bringing Displaced to an end is ‘The Humans Are Dead’ - a dystopian trip through a Fallout-like apocalypse soundtracked by 80s horror styled melodies and futuristic laser blasts.

Title track “Drugs Here” sets the pace for the whole EP, with “No Time To Lose” bringing WTCHCRFT’s signature vocal edit style. B side banger “Uhmm” recently featured on TSHA’s Fabric mix compilation.

PREMIERE: Matthew Day - Knee Deep (Flyora Remix)

Dublin based Matthew Day (FKA Taking Names) has supplied a brilliant premiere today titled ‘Inside Out’. This track is a wonderful showcase of chopped breaks, ethereal electro and low-slung dubstep infused into one. This track is truly sublime listening all the way through. What a treat.

Following Matthew’s debut EP release ‘Deep Blue’ as well as a release on Birmingham based label ‘Fly By Night Recordings’ under his belt. His latest endeavour ‘Inside Out’ looks to be a continuation of him carving out a unique sound that aims to blend electro, house, trance and bass music together.

This 4 track EP is made up of 3 of his own original productions titled ‘Inside Out’, ‘Knee Deep’ and ‘Celestial Body’ with the extremely talented, Belfast based Flyora on remix duties who provided their own take on ‘Celestial Body’ too.

‘Inside Out’, which has previously featured on BBC Radio kicks the EP off with an amalgamation of bass, field recordings and and sounds derived from the legendary Korg Prophecy synthesiser that make for a fantastic listening experience. The depth of this track is so rich that upon re-listening you can hear new elements throughout the production which is thoroughly enjoyable.

Four Four Premiere: Mathew Day - Inside Out

Berlin based producer Estella Boersma announced themselves with a debut on Unknown to the Unknown’s Dance Trax imprint and a string of appearances in the infamous HOR bathroom have followed – including one at Crave Festival – generating a positive stream count thanks to their varied DJing style; floating between techno, bass, breaks, electro and old school rave.

Now debuting on Lobster Theremin, Estella serves up four assorted club cuts that perfectly exemplify the energy felt front-left at one of their sets.

‘The Wave’ is the most quintessential Estella track on the release – brimming with acid, breakbeats and warehouse rave energy, channelling older XL Recordings-inspired sounds and modern-punk electronic aesthetics. ‘Dial’ is frantic, stripped-back and raw - an angelic, colourful techno trip through pixelated palm trees and psychedelic sunrises.

‘Transfer’ drains the colour from its fabric as light turns to dark. Headsy, underground appeal blends with bouncy fun on a cut of wobbly 4x4 that sounds like something you might hear in a Chloe Robinson set, before high pitched-vocals and sped-up synths dazzle and delight with something that sits between techno, footwork and classic Chicago house.

Hot on the heels of their debut on Lobster Theremin, Sydney born and bred radio host, DJ/producer AK SPORTS readies five devastating cuts of distinct Nu-Sports club; finding their Higher Power - a new-age rave pairing formed from within a blazing ball of hell-fire.
Releases and remixes have followed on Dansu Discs, Mad Decent and CLUB GLOW (where they produced a collaborative EP with rising artist Kessler), and their Balamii radio show has welcomed guests from Dagga, Allan Fitzpatrick, Moktar, Mell G, Nova Cheq and Nikki Nair.
Inspired by the lack of female faces in a male-dominated scene, AK SPORTS has been at the forefront of a big-room, warehouse sound being championed in Australia (X CLUB, Mall Grab) that has been borrowing from the golden eras of trance and hardcore, whilst also catapulting that same energy straight into the dance through a contemporary lens.
‘West Coast’ tears itself into two forms - one a heavyweight 4x4 power mix, the other a ravey cut of breakbeat hardcore that melts across a scattered rhythm. ‘Une Amie’ floats like a killer-bee amongst swirls of synthy colours and patterns on a deep, driving and frenzied techno flow.
‘Eurostar’ is the soundtrack to what would happen if the high-speed, multi-national rail service was somewhere transported the a Mario Kart multiverse – a cut of trance-fused Euro-techno – before ‘Lockdown in the Big Smoke’ takes us on a melancholic trip into the dead of night on a killer techno-spooker.
