X-Coast delights us this episode with a sonic journey on the border between imagination and reality. Combining the warm chords and vocals of classic house music witht the pace and punch of trance, this young artist has found a sound that feels both new and oddly familiar, both tried and tested as well as innovative. This "riviera groove"  simultaneously encapsulates the rawness of night life as well as the laid-backness of island existence. X-coast has managed to combine these seemingly opposed feelings into a distinct and recognizable musical approach that is entirely his own. X-Coast is simply a vibe.

This week’s Local Selection Mix is a meaty live recording from Rustal in the Sugar Club for RLSD Records. Peter Sweeney better known as Rustal brought the his machines for a workout of just under an hour of techno funk.

Rustal is one of Dublin’s most accomplished techno act’s at this very present moment. The regular fixture in Dublin’s techno scene, can be found laying it down in venues across the city, wether it be a live set or behind a set of decks, Rustal has a pedigree for deep and driving techno excursions.

Rustal’s sound is heavily influenced by authoritative techno figures, wether it be Claude Young, Steve Rachmad, Shifted or Moritz von Oswald, the Dublin native is known for extensively delving into classic and contemporary techno sounds. Peter’s obsession for cavernous techno experimentation has landed him in some elite clubs, cities, parties and played alongside some of the world’s finest.

Over the course of Rustal’s extensive career he has regularly played in Berlin with a key performance in the fabled Tresor booth alongside Deniro, Mareena and more. Rustal has also thrown down in the home of techno, Detroit which is the end goal for many techno DJ and performers. The Dublin native has also notably played alongside techno titans such as DJ Bone, Luke Slater, Surgeon and more.

Rustal’s contribution to the Local Selection is deep, pounding and dubby trip through a selection of analogue hardware, with the Korg Electribe Emx-1 being the heart of the set-up. Rustal glides through warped synth lines, piercing acid cuts and jacking flavours, with absolute ease. As alway’s with live set’s, moving between moods and nuances can be tricky to make it cohesive, but Rustal holds the energy with immense poise and the trip is ultimately coherent. Raw and honest techno inspired by the past, but with eye’s firmly on the future.

Our first premiere of the day comes from London based producers & MC’s Soulecta & Mighty Moe, as the pairing team up for a buoyant two-step garage groove. Sleek rhythms meet hearty chord stabs & crisp vocal’s for an infectious new-school take on classic garage.

Soulecta has rapidly become one of the most talked about names from the new generation of UK garage artists. His remix videos have amassed over 3 million views across social media and he has received support from some of dance music’s leading tastemakers including DJ EZ, Skream, Danny Howard, Jaguar, Conducta and DJ Q. He has stacked up numerous mainstream radio plays across BBC Radio 1,1Xtra and Kiss FM and in May 2021 he released his debut collaboration album “Soulecta & Friends” which hit #5 on the UK Dance album chart.

Following on from the success of his debut collab album, the UK producer readies the release of its dub edition on JS DUBS – no less than fourteen cuts of radiant UKG alongside some of the best emerging and established talent in the business, from Smokey Bubblin’ B to Para and Tuff Trax to Matt Jam Lamont spanning speed garage, house-garage and 2-step; channelling the sounds of old and new to create the ultimate bumpin’ compilation.

Carefully curated, all of the guests have been selected by Soulecta himself on the basis of those who he rates and those who have influenced him over the years. Most recently the producer has taken to Instagram to regularly upload mini UKG edits of popular and nostalgic songs, from Kelis to Central Cee, amassing thousands of views in the process.

Four Four Premiere: Soulecta X Mighty Moe - 98 Style [GS DUBS]

This week’s entry to the Local Selection Mix Series welcomes Dublin-based DJ, SAZ. The fruitful selector has crafted a tidy mix that is specifically rooted across the spectrum of house and techno. Dipping into elements of prog and old-school rave sounds that do a fantastic job at keeping the listener on their toes while carving out an impressive recording that is ever-evolving.

SAZ has made a firm mark on Dublin’s dance music scene since she started DJing a few years ago. Possessing a uniquely diverse pallet that spans disco, house, and techno while occasionally dipping into trance and psy. Her outlook as a DJ is one that sifts through multiple sounds which encapsulates the true meaning of a selector. She has the ability to play comfortably in a vast number of genres through years of consistency, dedication, and hard work.

It is safe to say that SAZ has accomplished quite a bit as an artist in recent times. Hosting her own show Elevation Sounds on Phever, as well as appearing on Project Radio with Decorum. SAZ has played a range of club shows across the city, some of which include gigs in Cellar, Wigwam, Tengu, Index, Soundhouse, Bow Lane, and so on. While making her festival debut at BD last year on the Chapel Stage where she was joined alongside a host of local talent that included Royce Laroca, Jake Fitz, Resound DJs, and more.

This mix is a brilliant representation of SAZ’s skill and style as an artist, as she showcases her broad musical knowledge in this packed recording that is filled to the brim with sleek picks throughout. Here is this week’s Local Selection, courtesy of SAZ. Enjoy!
